Prostate cancer

Hope you recover mate .
My dad had aggressive prostate cancer .I had surgery 6 years ago for BPH but the symptoms are back. This time last year I found out I had high grade carcinoma in my bladder which was treated
I had to contact my GP surgery this week because it’s over 3 years since my last psa blood test . You think they wouldn’t really just leave it to me but fellas now you really have to demand and look after your own health because the system is not pro active .
Your last sentence is so true. I had a heart attack 2 yrs ago and was told I'd have to go back for check ups, I've heard fuck all since. Something I should chase up really.

How often do blokes get an MOT from their GP?

I live in the Manchester area and I’ve never been asked to go to my GP for an MOT.
Doesn't happen unless you push for it. Doubt it's the same throughout the country, probably depends on your location and your GP.

Wishing you the best A57, I know you have a good mindset and strong support.

The one thing I will say to all you guys out there, DON'T assume everything is OK or ignore anything.

Get checked!!!

I have an annual health check and every year insist on a physical check (I think my doctor enjoys it anyway and she fiddled around a lot more on my recent one) and every two years a PSA test.

If I do ever get a problem, I want it diagnosed as soon as possible. A finger up the bum every year and a blood test every two is a small price to pay.

While on the subject, I would urge all guys, especially you younger ones, to regularly check your nuts.

I never did, because we all know our nuts intimately don't we, but after a conversation with a nurse who told me I should, I did and then found a fuckin' lump!!! I was straight into Emerg that evening to have it checked. Fortunately it was a cyst, but the bloody thing has simply grown and grown.

The younger guys are more susceptible and I know a guy locally who was only 27 and recently died from testicular cancer.

My advice is to be proactive............NOT reactive.

Learn from other peoples experiences and advice.

Still getting regular blood tests, next telephone consultation on 18th Dec. Getting good attention. So sorry to hear your news A57, I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Unfortunately we’ve received the news this week after my latest round of blood tests we’ve sadly not beaten this my cancer is still here and growing, I’m now with the Christie and will have to go under a quite intense session of radiotherapy, it’s devastating news especially for my wife and girls who have been through too much already, but we’ll fight and then fight again until we’ve beaten it .I’m in a minority who doesn’t beat this dreadful disease first time round so please don’t give up in thinking it’s all doom and gloom if you are unfortunate to have it , I’ve lost a war but the battle will be won .
Up the blues .

Please lads get checked .
Best wishes to you and your family mate.

I had a look on my recent history on the NHS App and noted my surgery in Urmston categorised my malignant bladder cancer as ‘minor’ . My blood pressure went to 200/ 92 also ‘minor’ . Melanoma on my bonce -‘minor’ .I bet if I drop dead in the waiting room it would also be ‘minor’ . I strongly suspect as I am over 70 they just write you off.

If you dont ask you dont get. Im 50 and at 35 was told i should have one every 5 years and theyd contact me, never heard a dicky. Went in and insisted on one a couple of weeks ago and its a great feeling knowing all is well.
No fingers up bums for prostrate now. Quick blood test ruled out a plethora of potential ailments , heart monitors ruled out a dodgy ticker

My surgery is brilliant in getting blood tests done.

After my health and mental health issues over the last 4 years every 6 months without fail I receive a text message asking me to book a blood test. In fact my next blood test is this Tuesday and that will include a PSA teast
