Prostate cancer

Unfortunately we’ve received the news this week after my latest round of blood tests we’ve sadly not beaten this my cancer is still here and growing, I’m now with the Christie and will have to go under a quite intense session of radiotherapy, it’s devastating news especially for my wife and girls who have been through too much already, but we’ll fight and then fight again until we’ve beaten it .I’m in a minority who doesn’t beat this dreadful disease first time round so please don’t give up in thinking it’s all doom and gloom if you are unfortunate to have it , I’ve lost a war but the battle will be won .
Up the blues .

Please lads get checked .
Thoughts & best wishes with you mate, my partner is 6yrs clear of breast cancer I know how it feels, stay strong blue you’ve got this ;)

How often do blokes get an MOT from their GP?

I live in the Manchester area and I’ve never been asked to go to my GP for an MOT.
Every 6 months a blood and urine test for psa, lipid profile including triglycerides, liver profile etc.. Also the important vitamin d also vit b..
White cell and red cell details plus many other checks. Amazing what they can check now from so little blood taken.
Results 2 days later then review of medication with doctor explaining what if anything to change. .

For my post prostate cancer radiotherapy treatment glad to say annual check with usual blood test as my local doctor wants.

I think the problem is that as one gets older a lot can change in 6 months so that's why it is needed.

I prefer both the blood (PSA) and finger, only because the PSA tests can show false positives and are every two years.

I also requested a check on my heart 10 years ago and had another more recently, just to make sure that nothing is sneaking up on me. I don't see the point in waiting to have a stroke or heart attack before doing something.

If an issue had been identified 10 years ago, then it wouldn't have had time to escalate over the years. Fortunately all is good.

Poop test came in the post this week, so that's the next one. Safer, than a colonoscopy.

The medical facilities are there for me to maintain or monitor my health, so it just makes sense to use them. Some I have to ask for, some my doctor suggests, I'd advise you all to do the same.
It was ridiculous i had to put a complaint in against a receptionist to even get an appointment but once in front of the doc she was brill.

My mum had a heart attack and a quadruple by pass so i like to check on that, though hers was probably lifestyle. She also died of lung cancer but again she was a smoker so …
Ive had testicular cancer and my dad and sister have both had skin cancers. So all that turns u into a bit of a hypochondriac

Had a similar experience with my gp, 2 months of not sleeping and unable to control basic body functions. Put in 2 complaints and they asked me what I wanted them to do. I said in a time when men are told to report changes in their body that they could get things checked rather than antibiotics. Had an ultra sound scan and the issue was recognised. To anyone who has similar issues I'd say fight your corner and get things checked. Once I saw them my gp was excellent and it seems more like reception staff are used to triage patients more thorough than ever

Men are useless and it takes a lot for us to pick the phone up. The battle shouldnt start then

Which is what I explained to the practice manager in my complaint. It took a lot for me as my issue was a very personal one and it basically left me in great discomfort and feeling indignified
One medical professional said over the phone it was my anxieties causing the issue. Rather than the physical issues causing my anxieties

Heard today my dad has an enlarged prostate amongst other things, they said they are going to see him sharpish, fuck me I hope it ain’t the big C, he’s not well enough as it is to fight that bastard.
