Prostate cancer

My initial symptoms were passed off as constipation and prostate. A gloved finger up the arse isn’t great but the professionals were excellent.

Prostate sufferers were in and out of my ward when I was in with bowel. Beat it, Mooners!

Unfortunately we’ve received the news this week after my latest round of blood tests we’ve sadly not beaten this my cancer is still here and growing, I’m now with the Christie and will have to go under a quite intense session of radiotherapy, it’s devastating news especially for my wife and girls who have been through too much already, but we’ll fight and then fight again until we’ve beaten it .I’m in a minority who doesn’t beat this dreadful disease first time round so please don’t give up in thinking it’s all doom and gloom if you are unfortunate to have it , I’ve lost a war but the battle will be won .
Up the blues .

Have nothing but praise for my consultant and his team in Leicester. I do bloods once a month on a Friday morning, I get either an appointment or a phone call on the Monday giving me the results/ have a chat and then if all OK my immunotherapy at home on a Wednesday.
My local GP, although efficient, come across as a bit cold from time to time although to be fair the cancer nurse there does ring me once a month for a chat.
My local hospital is on special measures which tells you all you need to know. Once sat in A&E for 24 hours with no immune system and a temperature of 40.6. A lot of original fussing and after that nothing. When I finally got moved into a side room and put on a drip they had to tie it up with a rubber glove onto pipework as they didn't have any spare drip stands.

And they wonder why I prefer to drive to Leicester.

If you dont ask you dont get. Im 50 and at 35 was told i should have one every 5 years and theyd contact me, never heard a dicky. Went in and insisted on one a couple of weeks ago and its a great feeling knowing all is well.
No fingers up bums for prostrate now. Quick blood test ruled out a plethora of potential ailments , heart monitors ruled out a dodgy ticker

I prefer both the blood (PSA) and finger, only because the PSA tests can show false positives and are every two years.

I also requested a check on my heart 10 years ago and had another more recently, just to make sure that nothing is sneaking up on me. I don't see the point in waiting to have a stroke or heart attack before doing something.

If an issue had been identified 10 years ago, then it wouldn't have had time to escalate over the years. Fortunately all is good.

Poop test came in the post this week, so that's the next one. Safer, than a colonoscopy.

The medical facilities are there for me to maintain or monitor my health, so it just makes sense to use them. Some I have to ask for, some my doctor suggests, I'd advise you all to do the same.
