Prostate cancer

4 mates all blues got PSA high readings in the last 2 years 2 of them had fuck all wrong with them went thru peer pressure we are all 60 plus all had bad news 3 had the fucker removed one radiotherapy all recovered and all clear.
All 4 mithered me so last week had the blood test and ffs massive reading and fast tracked to urology at Tameside and now having MRI scan on Saturday afternoon absolutely fucked me up big time. Resigned after a week to accepting it has to be worse case scenario but begs the question should we be tested or not I’m hoping that in the long term I may have averted something very unpleasant and prolonged my life so on balance despite being in a very bad place at the moment maybe I did the right thing.
I had to tell all my mates the current situation as they all knew I’d been tested the thing was I told them the outcome yesterday afternoon as all of them were at the funeral of one of our mates who had passed away only 56 and one of Stalybridge’s finest blues.
Emotions ran high as expected
But for a few hours and to be honest what was more emotional than my situation was that at least a dozen of us who all went to York including Moz RIP were all together again all still as loyal as ever although few still go away but everyone still ST holders.
And it was arguably the first time in years that over 20 of the founder members of the infamous Stalybridge Fox Tavern Supporters club we’re in the same boozer albeit in Cockbrook but within a mile of our spiritual home and the railway station where we all boarded the train that fateful day lol
I’m humbled by the support group I have around me as demonstrated yesterday plus a great family.

Just spent the last hour reading all 40 odd pages and have found the council given on here very comforting and reassuring as I experienced yesterday there is something uniquely special about us Blues in all aspects of life be it in or out of football
We went with the Fox on a few away trips including the infamous Cardiff away the day Franny took over. Also, the Palace League Cup match where we got hammered and Steve Lomas broke his leg and we got home at around 5am.

Ronnie and Moz ran the club at the time, I didn’t realise Moz had passed away, RIP fella.

Which pub did you go to in Cockbrook? As you probably know I ran our unofficial Supporters club from the Warrington for many years, when it closed (reopened now) we moved to the Sycamore but one of our “members” now runs the Astley on Robinson Street so we go from there, £3.75 for Guiness as opposed to £5.60 in the Syci.

I remember a few lads from your branch, Chris Haig is a cousin of Steve Mangan who still comes to the games with us, really sorry to hear about Moz.

Best of luck to you, don’t know if you remember Paul Rodgers who came in the away trips and plenty of home games but he was diagnosed with incurable Prostate Cancer in 2015, he’s still here battling away, 4 of us sit together at the match, 3 of us, mid 60’s have had health scares over the past 9 months, take it easy fella, there’s plenty of help out there.

Think you’re getting my identity mixed up pal, I’ll send you a photo by PM. The restaurant is Sorriso, actually Albanian! Mark worked with me when I had my Courier business but he fell out with me over a Covid issue, I’ve no beef with him whatsoever and gave him a cracking reference when he joined DX. I did know Dave Lee when he worked for Arnold’s, one of their customers called him “Mr Cartoon Head”, had a drink with him a few times in the Whitehouse.

I live around a two minutes walk away from the Heroes and have been to Wembley and the odd away game with them but not since Covid, I see Middy who runs it at the match now and again.

(I could be the one you called Graham Taylor, remember getting called that a few times!!)

Well funny that it’s you your right I didn’t think the lad I was visualising was you. You’ll always be Graham Taylor to the lads who went all those years ago I’m best mates with Al Chap Ronnie Haigy etc think I PMd you a while back telling you my real name lol. Al Chap just told me I’m thinking of a lad called Ambo or something like that pmsl

Think you were on the Heroes coach for what turned out to be my last away game the cup tie at Wednesday just before lockdown started

I tried sending a photo on PM but somehow my format had buggered up. You’re correct I was in the bus to Wembley, wasn’t feeling well and was subsequently diagnosed with hooping cough but the Doc said possibly Covid as well but the nearest testing centre available was in Scotland so I just batted it out.

My Dad’s cousin was married to Al Chap’s sister Marj, both sadly passed away as you probably know.

Pass on my regards to Al, I bumped into him last year in Ashton but not seen him since, probably in Thailand?

OK, an encouraging start.

Specialist said he can feel a smooth nodule on the right side of my prostate. He said that with some men, he would be able to tell them straight away that they have cancer, but he couldn’t in my case.

Before the exam he told me not to be worried because regardless of what he found, he’d be doing an MRI. I suppose the fact that he found the nodule means that it would be stupid not to have a biopsy, which is booked for 11th April - MRI sometime before.

He also said he wasn’t overly worried about the PSA of 23 - that simply means your prostate needs further investigation.

So far, so good. Dr Google (I.e. my wife) has since discovered that the term “nodule” is usually used to refer to small lumps of 3cm or less.

Keeping my expectations in check because it could still be cancer, but hopefully it’s an early stage if that’s the case.
Peeing more often at night and during the day could in fact usually means mean you have an enlarged prostate gland Rob , many men live with enlarged prostate for a good proportion of their lives until they have the TURP if it becomes too uncomfortable and medication , diet and a fitness regime don't control its size.

Same goes for having to wait a long time to discharge urine , dribbling urine , two streams at once etc.

I have been on medication for years for an enlarged prostrate but I agree regular checks at any age are important.

If you pee blood , pee in pain , ejaculate in pain time have regular pelvic pain , back pain then you need to have your prostate checked for either benign or cancerous tumours and most likely have them removed if that is the cause of these symptoms.

Sudden loss of weight and regular vomiting can also be a sign of prostate issues beyond the normal aging process and its impact on your prostate.

Again all of us hope for the best to you and all those who contract cancer but lets hope in your case its no more than a benign tumour at worst.

Thanks. Let’s hope it’s no more than an enlarged prostate. I’ve certainly not been losing weight but regardless of whether this is cancer or not, I’m going to improve my diet and stick to it.

Generally, I eat healthy, but ruin it with far too many cakes, biscuits and sugary drinks. So I’ve already kicked that nonsense into touch this week and if nothing else, I’ll come out of this episode a lot slimmer!

Lost 10 lb in 10 days diet was ok except post 5 pm stopped all the shite even if it means going to bed at 7 pm lol
Feel better than ever but guess that will be railroaded will get results I guess before Easter

Hard to tell. I read somewhere that when done privately, results are generally available in 3 working days. But it’s possible that I may have to wait longer - the consultant I see is only at the Alexandra on Mondays and the Easter holidays may delay things.

To be honest, I’m just putting it out of my mind. Biopsy isn’t until 11th so I won’t know the full picture until after then anyway.

You need some vices Rob but as you suggest everything in moderation.

on a selfish note we need you to co-ordinate the many music threads you engage in.

You are the equivalent of the Emil Gilels of this task.

Good friend of mine, and big Forest fan diagnosed this week. Note even 60. He’s always been lucky, and I so hope he keeps that vein of form up.
50’s to mid 60’s seems to be the danger age, after that it’s less aggressive and treatment is often for a enlarged gland that’s monitored but when the PSA’s readings are high removal is the best option.

Hope your mate gets through, as I’ve posted on here before my best mate of 54 years was diagnosed with incurable PC in 2015 as the cancer had spread to his Pelvis, still here, battling away and strong mentally and physically, incredible really.

Saw the consultant tonight and he says that he’s pretty sure it’s prostate cancer.

Good news is that the MRI showed that it hasn’t spread to the pelvis, lymph nodes, or anywhere else they can see. Going to have a bone scan to make sure, but he’d be surprised if it shows anything.

What the MRI did Show was a nodule on the cusp of breaking out of the prostate, and another abnormality that he’s less bothered about.

Biopsy on 11th April, results about 10 days later. Likely treatment is radiotherapy but he is leaving the possibility of surgery open.

Overall I feel relieved. I don’t mind telling you I was nervous when I walked through that door - it could have been life-changing. Admittedly, it is going to be a battle probably for the next year, but I feel lucky it has been caught relatively early.

If it needed saying again - don’t leave it too late - GET IT CHECKED.

I suspect that they could have caught this earlier if I’d gone after my 55th birthday, like I told myself I would. But it looks like I’m lucky that it is still treatable.

Good luck mate at least if it is cancerous it looks like it's been caught in time. Normally unless aggressive, prostate cancer, even if you have it, is slow growing. One of my consultants said many men die with prostate cancer, not because of it and don't even know they had it. The prognosis is good if caught in time as he's probably explained to you.
I preach to every bloke I know to get checked. If I'm having a piss in a public toilet and see a bloke in pain or struggling to pee I fetch the subject up. I get some strange looks at first but they always ask me for more information. Most know something isn't right but out of fear and/or embarrassment they ignore it hoping it will go away. It won't. In the end if it is serious and progresses eventually they end up in hospital anyway, so putting it off isn't the answer.

I'm currently on two lots of antibiotics, after which I have to have another PSA test to see if the antibiotics killed any possible lurking infection that has raised my PSA higher than it should be. My latest MRI scan ( My fourth in ten years ).wasn't showing cause for concern but in six weeks my PSA had risen from 9.9 to 11.9, hence the need for a scan. Two months after the scan it had dropped slightly to 11.2. My consultant said he thinks that rules out cancer as it normally doesn't drop if it is it just keeps rising. I've lived with it for ten years it's a bit of a rollercoaster at times. As everyone here has said.......get checked!!!!
