Protesters

What REALLY pisses me off though mate is that the hippies camped out in London probably know fuck all about it. Half of them are the same bearded, dungaree-wearing, unemployed, benefits-funded tossers who survive on lentils and camp out at Stonehedge at the equinox. In all seriousness, some of them would have us go back to ploughing with oxen and reviving "industries" like basket-weaving. They're fucking fruit cakes, half of them.
Are you sure you’re anti-Brexit? I only ask because you do seem to tick every other box ticked by the lunatic fringe of the Tory party.

Nail on the head , we could be 100% carbon neutral and have the greenest economy in the world . We would still be dead as the problem isnt in The U.K. but countries such as india, China Russia and sadly the USA.

That’s the point I was making before the usual suspects shouted me down.

It’s a huge global issue that needs tackling globally where the problem is not by hippies having a fun day out in London.

Probably posted from your Iphone made in China/India

I am all for the protests tbh.

Unrestricted Globalisation is largely to blame.
Human nature (esp. greed), overpopulation and technology are largely to blame. Globalisation just a by-product, but needs reigning in, as do those three core factors.

We need to find a way of managing the human population down, but that will be far from straightforward, if not impossible in the medium term.

I’ll ask again, what other option do we have but to get ourselves to 100% green energy and to put pressure on the rest of the world?

It’s a straight forward question.

I've read it, and countless other articles. What is far from clear and hugely open to debate is the effect of the various feedback mechanisms which have stabilized earth's temperature between pretty close bands for millions of years. Some of these feedback mechanisms only come into play over centuries, due to the thermal inertia of the deep oceans.

This is partly why even in the article you linked, they predict sea level rises of between 1 ft and 4ft by 2100. Scientific models are nothing more than predictions based on a whole load of assumptions, and they are very often wrong. For example none of the models predicted the cessation of global warming from around 1999 to 2015, and in fact this was so embarrassing that it was largely unreported for fear of fuelling the arguments of climate-change skeptics. For this is now essentially a political movement, more than it is a scientific one. World leaders with no background in science are motivated to preach at every opportunity. Maybe because they passionately believe it, or maybe because they figure voters passionately want to hear it. Who knows.
