PS4 OR Xbox One

I think its madness to buy a console now, I was planning on updating my 360 but after seeing costs went for a decent midrange pc for £500 with the gfx card added. i5 with 8Gb and then dropped a gtx 660 into it, that will play most things at a high/est setting at 1920x1080 that absolutely pisses on either consoles graphics. You don't need to be Einstein to work it out and so long as you don't get sucked into chasing the highest settings its cost effective.

Accessing back catalogues for cheap quality games is easy and Steam sales that virtually give games away, gog.com and other websites etc. and then you have mods for games. All just made me think why bother with a console any more when they cost virtually the same as a pc and the games are more expensive. Honestly don't know why after a bit of looking into it anyone would get a console unless its to share with the family.

This guy knows what he's on about.

Why is it so important to you what console people buy?

Well the thread is called 'PS4 or Xbox One'
Goes without saying that a thread on a forum titled as such is going to be filled with opinions on said thread title.

I've bought an Xbox One and find the setup is a lot better than the PS4.

Not much in either to be honest so its personal preference.
I've got both and definitely prefer the Xbox overall. The layout is so much better for me.

"Just as SemiAccurate predicted months ago, Microsoft has adopted AMD’s Mantle but are now calling it DX12. The way they did it manages to pull stupidity from the jaws of defeat by breaking compatibility in the name of lock-in.

The impetus for all of this mess is the dire situation the XBox One is in. You might recall that it is woefully underpowered compared to the Sony PS4, has roughly 50% less shader performance, far lower memory bandwidth, significantly harder to program for, and tools described by many several as “a mess”. Sony suffers from none of this and is hammering Microsoft in the sales race, to the point where many are openly wondering if the XBox One has failed."

<a class="postlink" href="http://semiaccurate.com/2014/03/18/microsoft-adopts-mantle-calls-dx12/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://semiaccurate.com/2014/03/18/micr ... alls-dx12/</a>

mantle is basically AMD's version of DX.....microsoft DX is currently used in 99% of games. However, AMD recently released mantle with their latest drivers. Mantle allows the GPU (graphics card) to unlock additional frame rates and faster processing, giving around a 15-25% increase in FPS (frames per second).

There's giving an opinion & then there's going all holistic about it! :-)

Anyone who buys a modern console in the first year of it's release is to some extent an unpaid beta-tester. Takes at least that time for manufacturers to identify and fix the faults. And most of the games are really just glorified tech demos (the development teams having not had a great deal of time or resources to work with the new hardware).

Always better to wait at least a year after release (also for the price drops!).

Plus after a year they stop making all the games for the last generation of consoles also (limiting how much of the new consoles capacity they use).

This is a nutshell.

Wait with your cash a year, and buy the new games on the older gen consoles.
