PS4 OR Xbox One

If you think the minor differences in PS4/ Xbox graphics for cross format games are a big deal then surely all the effort into updating drivers on a PC would be well worth it as most games on the highest settings shit on consoles.

Do you have a big TV in your games room?

The tv's 42 inch so not massive but I'm sat fairly close.

I'm just not convinced it is worth the hassle.....plus I love achievements - much prefer them to trophies on PS.

I get that people like PC gaming but I just enjoy the convenience of consoles.

I also think those minor differences will become a much bigger difference as time rolls by and the older gen starts to die.
When developers can concentrate solely on this new gen I think the gap will become much bigger. It's a 20% difference, that's not a small amount.
We're just not seeing it yet because the previous gen is being developed for. Lowest common denominator and all that.

Yes I have. Have you used the ps4 cam?
Yes, and it isn't capable of infrared tracking, so it's depth perception is too limited for proper full body tracking, especially in changing light conditions. It also needs fairly high contrast between objects, which isn't too good against light coloured walls with the lights on if you have pale skin. It also doesn't have built in heart rate tracking or an emotion engine. As I said, it's functionality is too limited and it suffers from similar issues to the original Kinect.

Great. I'm sure you'll enjoy using your heart rate tracker to turn your tv over with... XBOX OFF, XBOX OFF..... XBOX....oh FFS!!!! Where's that remote gone again!

Funny, it works fine for me. I hear they are launching a speech therapy programme so it might work for you after a few bouts with that ;-P

Apparently you gave to say 'Xbox turn off' because the hardware is too fabulous to differentiate!

You just don't want to be yelling at the tv. I'm sat all cushty drinking a brew and playing lego marvel and suddenly shooting at the tv just breaks the ambiance.
And I don't want to be forced to pay £80 for something with next to no software support.

You're assuming the gap will increase when everything suggests otherwise. There's more coming to the Xbox, not just graphical improvements that will happen on both consoles as developers have more time to produce new games.

I don't agree that things suggest otherwise. Look at previous gen. At one point 360 was waaaay out in front but now PS3 has caught right up and the gfx surpass it.

I think what will happen is the resolution will drop from 1080 at 60 fps to something matching the XBO - maybe 900 at a steady 40 fps and that extra CPU and gpu usage saved will be used to really show it's graphical power.
Software can't close such a big hardware difference. Both machines are very similar but in just about every way the ps4 is slightly more powerful - even the ddr5 speeds will make a massive difference in time.

The PS3 was originally more powerful than the 360, like I said the Xbox is more innovative and is releasing more features. Maybe the Ps4 will as well but I haven't heard any developers praise future PS4 features like the Xbox.
"I have nothing against consoles, and there's some really interesting and exciting things happening. That was one of the cool things about meeting with Microsoft," Hall told Eurogamer. "There were definitely some things they said that I'm not allowed to talk about that I was like, 'Wow! That's interesting. Why don't you tell people that?' But I guess they want to make sure everything all goes together and that."

That developer spoke to both MS and Sony but only praised the future of the Xbox despite being pro PS a year earlier.

We're going round in circles, enjoy your consoles, that's all that matters.

There's been numerous articles from Indie developers saying that Sony is working closely with them to develop and get there games out there.
This is where the innovation comes in to it. Not for a single second do I think the EA's and respawns of this world are going to be innovative.
This is quiet the contrast to MS who abused the indie stuff and live arcade stuff with 360 and have these strangling rules when it comes to releasing on XBO.

Hell even PSN is stating to take the lead from xbox live. Look at the amount of quality free games there giving away compared to MS! Let's hope their infrastructure is as good as Ms's but there not going to make the same mistakes as last time out.

It's well known that Sony went to every major games developer and consulted with them during the R&D phase to ensure that they all bought into what they were doing and had their say.
Much like with the ps2 era and that console dominated like never before.

Right, the ps3 was more powerful - but people needed to get to grips with it. Eventually it caught up.
The ps4 is more powerful from the start - where will they be when the generation has ended?? Leagues ahead unless MS do something drastic.

And let's hope they do. In order to have a thriving games industry it needs competition.
I want both consoles to do really well - I have both and I'd love a wii U as well but MS need to make some very big changes.
The new CEO of The xbox division doesn't even like the xbox. There's another worry. When going for the CEO of MS as a whole last year he made a well known statement saying he would get rid of xbox and microsofts tablet divisions - now this guys is in charge of xbox. It doesn't bode well.

Is Jim on commission?

Why is it so important to you what console people buy?

I think its madness to buy a console now, I was planning on updating my 360 but after seeing costs went for a decent midrange pc for £500 with the gfx card added. i5 with 8Gb and then dropped a gtx 660 into it, that will play most things at a high/est setting at 1920x1080 that absolutely pisses on either consoles graphics. You don't need to be Einstein to work it out and so long as you don't get sucked into chasing the highest settings its cost effective.

Accessing back catalogues for cheap quality games is easy and Steam sales that virtually give games away, gog.com and other websites etc. and then you have mods for games. All just made me think why bother with a console any more when they cost virtually the same as a pc and the games are more expensive. Honestly don't know why after a bit of looking into it anyone would get a console unless its to share with the family.
