RAF accused of “artificially inflating” diversity numbers

Utter rubbish, but I suppose the fact that you and people like you think this is the case mean the RAF does have an issue to address - even if it's only public perception

It seems to have an issue in terms of its racial profile, not just public perception. Institutions invariably limit the pool of talent they choose from. Take gender. In the RAF (from latest figures) around 6% of women are pilots. In the USAF it’s around 20%. So, are US women better pilots than UK women, or are they just given the opportunity?

Trying to encourage institutions to choose from a wider talent pool seems sensible.

Tell Crystal Palace that mate :)

Is that difference a difference in opportunity or some other cultural/societal filter coming to bear upon the talent pool before it gets to the RAF application process?

Actually, that is an interesting point. Is PV subconsciously choosing from a profile he is comfortable with? I have no idea if he is or isn’t given I don’t give a toss about Palace, but again limiting your choices through any lens hinders your chances of success.

It’s like Patrick Bamford who was marginalised at some clubs because he was a ‘posh lad’. Nothing to do with his merits or otherwise as a player. Sometimes posh white kids can’t catch a break :)

Entry requirements are very clear and nowhere does it state there is a preference for white males in roles.

To suggest so is utter bollox as per usual and flies in the face of a policy that suggests the opposite is in fact true.

It seems many are unaware of what it takes to become a Pilot say and the fact the vast majority of applicants fail, regardless of sex or ethnicity just because it’s so fucking difficult and rightly so. Those that make it are the best of the best.

Watering that down to pander to some silly notion we need a more diverse service is ridiculous.

Very few women pilots due to the length of their limbs often not being long enough. Too short or too long and you can't be a pilot int the RAF.

Keep that quite or the short angry man will be complaining !

But you are correct about the size you have to be a certain size to be a pilot

I would say in the USA case, it’s fucking huge and the chances of making it may increase, I wonder how many of those spots are in the reserves which we don’t have? Maybe they don’t get as many women apply here as opposed to the USA where you can’t move for patriotism. The ones I met in my time are all USA chanting types, I don’t see many women over here like that.
