I hate it when people call him overrated, you can blame the English media for that clinging onto him as if he is some sort of saviour to the national team.

He is 20, European golden boy award winner, scoring 10-15 goals a season and assisting nearly the same, yes he gives the ball away and sometimes his runs don't always come off, but this lad is one of the best young attacking players in the game.

He has 6 goals and 7 assists this season. 9 goals and 6 assists last season. I rate him, but he is very much overrated. Golden boy award means nothing either.

If he was South American or doing what he is doing in Italy or Spain we would be screaming to sign him.

The price tag is what makes everyone get uptight, but that's the price us English have to pay for our own players unfortunately.

It isn't as easy as you say , although truth in it none the less

However, players are now vetted from top to bottom, especially these kids..... Potentially sterling is a world beater, he's also potentially another mario, in fact, you can replace mario with sterling up top at the same age... If he learns to embrace the game rather than the dollar then I'm in, but don't be too sure.::. This kid will put his dick anywhere, hence he has 14 kids at twenty!!!!

No, no, no, no and no. He is massively over rated.

Bayern, the Madrids and Barcelona wouldn't touch him with Uniteds so why would we? We want players who would at least make their bench.

Real spent about £23m on Isco (plus agent fees etc) and he's now probably worth closer to £40m. If we spent circa £40-50m on Sterling and he didn't meet his potential, he would still command a huge fee considering the ever increasing inflation in the transfer market. Likelihood is he will improve and find consistency and also be played in his best position week in week out.

He's had a lot of pressure on his shoulders both at Liverpool, then through the World Cup and then gone into this season with people expecting the exact same. Liverpool lost Suarez, Sturridge was out with injuries and their whole style of play wasn't effective and they've had to change it. He's still been their best player week in week out and there's not a player in the World that hasn't had a downturn in performances at some stage, and he's only 20.

As long as the fee is under £50m there is a strong possibility that he will become a player worth £80m or more - that's when Real or Barca might come knocking and that's when you decide whether he has been worth the money.

With the Euro - £ rate at the moment I see the argument for buying abroad and for me Bale would be the man to sign if we decide we only want one wide player. I think we would see a huge improvement in our performances and results with both Bale and Sterling in the side and then bolster the midfield with Schneiderlin and allow Silva to play the no10 in a 4-2-3-1. He isn't overrated by any means. His price is over inflated for certain but when you look at what he's done at his age I think he's "worth" it so to speak.

That's odd because Bayern are scouting him and are interested.

He's not overrated. I watch a fair bit of European football and when people praise Barkley I say "there are dozens of better prospects around Europe" because there are. There is nothing stand out about him and he doesn't have much of an effect on games (in terms of goals, assists, key passes). But with Sterling he really is a stand out talent, a 20 year old already who has already impacted many games and shown game-changing ability. Whether he reaches that potential is another question but it is there and with the right nurturing he could easily be as good as Bale, I would say he could be even better. People seem to forget he's not long out of his teens and look at some of his performances already. Inconsistency is normal at that age, you look for the signs of greatness and they are there.

Well I've been wrong before, and I could be this time, but I'll be amazed if Bayern sign him. I think players like sterling peak around 22 or 23 while they have their youth and turn of pace, and I also think Liverpool will be asking so much it would make the transfer unacceptable. Especially us, people think we're a blank cheque (although maybe less so with the recent ffp fine).
I'm watching him tonight, he's playing reasonably well, but it's been Rooney and Welbeck who have been causing Lithuania problems. And this is fairly poor opposition, no disrespect to them.
