he isnt though. hazard, neymar, bale, sanchez, suarez are. and for the price thats what i expect to be seeing. guess my expectations are too high...
Hazard was a risk/prospect when Chelsea bought him and you'd get laughed at now with a bid that wasn't at least £70m and I don't think they'd sell for that. Barca wanted rid of Sanchez, which hardly pushed his price up but was still £40m. The other three have basically all gone for £80m in the last few years. And then you add on the PL to PL club extra cost, plus the English premium and £50m becomes par - Fulham want £10m for a player who hasn't made their first team.

Read an article yesterday (http://www.theguardian.com/football...m-sterling-score-against-ronaldo-messi-age-20) comparing Sterling to Ronaldo, Messi and others at 20. Messi was already scoring 3 in 4, because he's a freak, but Sterling's stats are better than the show pony's were and better than both on chances created (not assists, as that's not fair when you're creating them for Borini and Lambert). And better than the likes of Neymar or Bale. Hazard was better, but in an easier league.

They also listed big money moves and for players under 23, they're are usually a success, more so than for players over 23 - Neymar, Ronaldo, Shrek, Hazard, Carroll being a notable exception.

Is it a lot of money? Yes, but so is £35m, or £25m or £15m if the player flops. Is it a gamble? Yes, but a calculated one as would Messi be, especially as he's only scored one goal in England and that was a pen. Is it going to increase the price of my season ticket? No, so fuck it, let's just do it.

Could someone explain to me what material difference it makes to the buying club if a player hands in a transfer request?

Cheers.

If Sterling hands in a transfer request it's a public statement that he wants to leave and is prepared to forfeit any percentage due to him from the transfer fee. Financially it doesn't benefit the buying club but it saves the selling club a few million and, in theory, makes the transfer more likely to happen.

He should hand in one soon.
