Hopefully, just the threat of him doing this will be enough for Liverpool to sell at a reasonable price.
Wouldn't it be more bad press on Sterling and more so Liverpool that a player has gone to extreme lengths to get out of a club like Liverpool who pride themselves on being this elite club?
I don't see us getting much bad press out of it, the only bad press we would get is if we don't play him.
Reading more into it - he is planning on buying out one year which would leave a final year on his contract. I can't see how he can legally do that because the club are then left with the possibility of losing a lot of money. Surely it would be up to all parties involved in the contract to agree to that and Liverpool have no reason and no legal obligation to agree... I just don't get how he could do it. If he had a year left then it would be different but it just doesn't make sense. They'd surely turn around and say - you can buy the whole term of the contract out and they could argue for a lot more than just the £1,7m per annum he is on considering his market value.
If it was clear he could earn £150,000 a week, Liverpool would argue they are owed that much up to the end of the contract and if he had an offer on the table from us that would be evidence for them.
It's all very complicated but why on earth would anyone be able to buy out one year of a contract and still leave a final year in place... that doesn't add up.
