I was responding to the assertion that Sterling could sign an extension any time during the season depending on how it's going. If the club force his hand now by saying you sign now or you will be leavingThey can plan anyway. I’m sure they have a shortlist in case Sterling leaves in this window that isn’t dissimilar to the list for next summer, should he leave.

Because they won't know his intentions until he decides, which could be at the end of next season. That is the tail wagging the dog.Why would they do that though?
The club not knowing whether a player is leaving or wanting to stay depending how he feels isn't a good position imo
