Rangers coming to Stretford

Were any of youse in Manchester that day ? Well i was . From 9-30 till 4 am . Yes a Few Rangers Fans let themselves and their club down that day but the behaviour of GMP`s finest wasnt too great either , to put it mildly .
Take it none of youse lot were at Boro or Barnsley .

-- Mon Aug 30, 2010 12:12 am --

By the way . 9-30 am on the morning of the game .

There were no bobbies in riot gear until the day shift had clocked off. Come 6.30pm, the riot squad appears fully kitted up. GMP were a fecking disgrace and not for the first time either.
It seems like people have taken a view and facts don't seem to come into the equation at all.
GMP put a 72 year old guy in a hospital for 3 months, that never seems to get a mention.
Anyway, seems pointless trying to point out things for people who have a settled view on what did or did not happen, my last point on the subject is that "Rangers wrecked our city".
That is palpable nonsense.

Being stood in the top left hand corner of the Kippax at the 5-1 demolition derby, I'm pretty confident that didn't happen.

i agree that to claim 100% support for two teams is impossible. however, i think you can have a preference for one team over the other in most derbies. it doesn't mean i support them, just like watching football. i prefer rangers, hibs, dortmund, atletico, ac milan, arsenal, everton, dundee united, 1860 munich, norwich, burnley, sunderland all to win their own particular derbies just as i wanted mexico to win the world cup opener against south africa and chose a team i wanted to win in every single game after that. not because i support them but for daft reasons like chile sing their national anthem more passionately or me and our kid had dundee united subbuteo team when we were kids.

i was 10 at the 5-1 derby. me and my dad got in about 30 - 40 minutes before kick-off. as the kippax started to fill up, their was clear chanting of celtic / rangers prior to kick-off. i asked my dad why this was and he said that city fans prefer rangers and united prefer celtic. this seemed to make sense as my brother had a half united half celtic hat and the opposite was available at city. city's souvenir shop sold rangers shirts at the time. i also remember being terrified when it went off in the north stand and wanting to go home. i remember the walk back to the car when there wasn't a rag in sight and all the blues were hanging out of cars with commentary being played on radios and horns blaring.
there are a lot of games i don't remember much about due to them being boring or me being pissed over the following years, but i'll never forget this day.

Right you lot....

City are playing your other team. Who do you support? Who do you put your neck on the line for? Which end do you go in? Which scarf do you wear?

You see a team of lads setting about a lad from the other team you support. What do you do? Do you go and help him? Join in with the others? Walk on by in embarrassment?

You're either a City fan or your not. Simple. If it all goes off, I want City founds round me, them watching my back, me watching theirs.

You're either with us or against us. I know who'd I'd rather be stood with in the trenches.

City first, would be in the City end (as I was at the friendly at Ibrox last year) providing I could get a ticket.

As for scarf either City or my half & half one - whichever is my "lucky" scarf at the time.

How can someone say another person can't support two teams? That they cannot have the same feelings for two teams?

That is a personal thing surely? You can't tell someone what they feel. Some people are one club supporters and simply can't muster any feelings for another one. Other's quite obviously can. How people can tell them that they are wrong to do so is beyond me!

I used to go watching Bolton when City weren't playing. To be honest I don't remember cheering when they scored a goal in the four of five years I went! The only reason I used to go was to have a few pints with my mates, have a laugh and for something to do rather than sit on my arse at home. This was when they were in the old second/third division and it was the equivalent of a tenner to get in. They are still the third result I look at - City, see if utd got beat and then Bolton.

I saw about ten Rangers fans kicking the shit of a rag at the side of Burger King. I pointed it to the girlfriend. She asked me if i was going to run across and help. I said 'no need love, the Rangers fans seem to being do a good enough job without me'

The bobbies didn't clock off at 6.30pm or at anytimeas they couldn't go home due to public disorder. The "rangers" fans were told to disperse or force would be used and officers had authority to use batons. Now I might be a bit thick but if there is fighting in a street and the Police say go home and disperse then I would disperse. As for GMP being a disgrace, why? For trying to maintain order? For using batons on the people still on the streets after telling them that they were in an area of public disorder and that force would be used and officers had authority to use batons.
It wasn't till around midnight that the streets were in full control of GMP. Now I will concede that it wasn't all the rangers fans but it was not just a small minorit,y even 1% of 200,000 is a lot.
GMP put a 72 year old guy in a hospital for 3 months, that never seems to get a mention. Because it never happened, more anti police nonesense from so called fans who after being welcomed to our City repaid us by treating it like an open sewer and once they realised that their "fun" was not going to be tolerated decided to throw in the old Police brutality. rangers have got previous for this and mindless idiots believe that it is ok to behave like this. Well it isn't.
Tell you what they won't get anywhere near the warm welcome next time they visit Manchester.
And before you spout it is preconceived ideas about a group of fans, it would not matter what team, city or country the fans came from. If they treated Manchester like the rangers fans did I would be saying the same.

thank fuk i dont stay in Manchester, just a small town outside Glasgow.
The thing is,when you get a Euro final only 200 miles away, and the offies want to make a fortune from 10 am,it's bound to cos problems.
Loads of my mates (my best mate actually) are "huns" ;),,they dont cos probs, they support the "teddy bears",good, decent guys.
As someone said earlier though,a small minority of 200,000 is plenty.
Good luck GMP.

Funnily enough so was I. And guess what, mildly glossing over things as you have done is pretty disingenuous.

If you were there, you know exactly what went on and it does not reflect well on Rangers.

GMP are certainly no angels, but come on lads, let's be honest about events, eh? Plenty of Gers fans were out of control.

-- Mon Aug 30, 2010 10:26 pm --

I really don't recall the Celtic/Rangers chanting but I do recall exactly what I was wearing, how much I drank and who I was stood with! :-) I also recall plenty of singing that had more to do with air disasters and digging up the corpse of a certain rag manager.

City souvenir sellers always used to sell BOTH City/Rangers and City/Celtic ski hats.

But let's make 2 things clear:

1) I almost feel like a dirty Celtic apologist on this thread as I seem to be attacking Rangers - I am not as I despise everything both Rangers and Celtic stand for.

2) Whether anyone likes it or not, there is no official link between City and ANYONE.
