It's disgusting that GMP did that to a senior citizen. I am pleased appropriate and legal action is being taken and coming to a successful conclusion for the gentleman concerned.
However, that incident wasn't the reason for all the trouble was it? That incident was a horrible by-product of the actions of Rangers fans on the day.
I'd be amazed if you had all been behaving like normal human beings, rather than living up to the national stereotype, the police would have reacted so heavy handedly and in the case above, inexcusably.
There can be no excuse or defence of GMP when they behave that way. It always astonishes me though how we are all quick to (rightly) criticise events like this, but refuse to acknowledge our own wrongs.
It's exactly that kind of attitude that perpetuates the Northern Ireland issue, all the "what-about-ery". Two wrongs don't make a right.
Have Rangers (the club or the fans) ever apologised for what they did to our City? I certainly haven't seen anything (I'd be really pleased to be proved wrong on that score) although I have seen what happened dismissed as "only a bit of litter that was cleaned up the next day" and such.
