Rangers coming to Stretford

It's disgusting that GMP did that to a senior citizen. I am pleased appropriate and legal action is being taken and coming to a successful conclusion for the gentleman concerned.

However, that incident wasn't the reason for all the trouble was it? That incident was a horrible by-product of the actions of Rangers fans on the day.

I'd be amazed if you had all been behaving like normal human beings, rather than living up to the national stereotype, the police would have reacted so heavy handedly and in the case above, inexcusably.

There can be no excuse or defence of GMP when they behave that way. It always astonishes me though how we are all quick to (rightly) criticise events like this, but refuse to acknowledge our own wrongs.

It's exactly that kind of attitude that perpetuates the Northern Ireland issue, all the "what-about-ery". Two wrongs don't make a right.

Have Rangers (the club or the fans) ever apologised for what they did to our City? I certainly haven't seen anything (I'd be really pleased to be proved wrong on that score) although I have seen what happened dismissed as "only a bit of litter that was cleaned up the next day" and such.

Who cares?

Let United, Rangers and GMP kick fuck out of each other.

Think it's a bit of a vicious circle, some football fans act like animals, For this reason the police treat anyone at a football game like scum, which winds everyone up and ends up with it kicking off. Police say it's down to football mentality, fans say it's heavy handed policing. Bit of common sense could usually be used.

I haven't got any time for Celtic, Rangers, United or GMP.

As usual, what the Rangers fans did, was brought on themselves. The screens were switched off because some arses were chucking stuff at the technicians.

And I suppose the Russian lad walked onto the end of that blade.

Brilliant.

GMP have admitted the screens were switched off because the fan zones were to crowded - the technician stuff is bollox, the plug was pulled.

And just for your information the Russian lad never walked onto the end of that blade no - for one simple reason, there was no fuckin blade. The real srory is that two Russians were rolling around having a scrap & one rolled over a bit of broken glass - maybe not sensationalist enough, but true.

But why let the truth get in the way of a good dig though eh?

No they didn't they said the plug was pulled by the council. The council said "The claim that the screen was switched off by the council is entirely unfounded. The screen broke down and as the technicians tried to fix it they were pelted with bottles. Nothing excuses the mindless violence that followed".

The Russian being stabbed was well reported

Ok Breadsnapper, got the guys age wrong, Manchesters finest don't pick on 72 year olds, it's 61 that's a bit better.
Got the period he was in hospital wrong too, it was 5 months not 3.

Whilst trying to shelter on his own in a doorway away from the trouble after the Uefa Cup Final, he was told to "move move move" by Manchester Police before being pushed to the ground and beaten. He was left in agonising pain on the pavement and was only helped to medical attention by two strangers.

He suffered a broken hipp and perforated bowel due to the attack, and spent ten days in intensive care following an emergency procedure, follow
ed by another 5 months in hospital.

A formal complaint was made by the gentleman's daughter and an investigation was launched. I have been told that the whole saga is reaching a conclusion and it looks like GMP have rightly been found liable and he is to be substantially compensated (hence why I haven't named him or provided a link).

So here we have another insight into the other side of the Manchester debacle, and again finding the GMP wanting.

BTW. YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT.
Ok regarding the old gent I will bow to your knowledge I really didn't know that. If that is the case then whoever is responsible should be brought to justice. It does not matter how old a pwrson is they DO NOT deserve that
In respect of some of the hostility and violence I witnessed first hand tje main instigators got
Got what they deserved. It was a disgrace, and not coz it was rangers. For anyone to justify or try to justify.certain peoples behaviour defies logic.
Again as I have quoted people were told to leave and they did not.
Pm me if you want I can give you.a better take on my.angle

i'm not a sympathiser in any way for rangers or celtic, i think both are scum and i'd love hibs or dundee united to smash them for the title. not that it'd bother me if the pair of them took turns winning that league until my dying day.
the only reason i've continued to post on this thread is that i think people who show any preference to one or the other are harshly treated. as i wrote earlier, i prefer a team in each derby but it's normally for bizarre reasons or years old preferences. it's like rugby though. i was born in salford so would like them to win the league and live in hull so prefer rovers over f.c. couldn't really give a good fuck about anything other than city or england though (and even my passion for england is fading fast).
i know there has never been a connection between city and rangers but a lot of our fans like, or have liked them for whatever reason. as i said earlier, this peaked in the '80s but denying it is like the rags denying the rampant racism on the stretford end during the same period.

by the way, what the fuckwits did to our city was a fucking discrace.

But hey, keeping living in your dream world.

And the reason for the lack of charges? Because it was two Russians fighting & one rolled over a glas/bottle. Even the reports you quote have completely different stories - one says 5 arrested & one says 30.

Anyway, for the United vs Rangers games, all coaches have to go to the DW Stadium where tickets will be distributed & the coaches will receive a police escort straight to Old Trafford & straight back to Wigan after the game.

As for what the council said, after there "organisation" that day I would need to check if they told me the sky was Blue - I think I'm far more inclined to beleive the heads of GMP in a situation like this.

Ample opportunity for any of those fans/sympathisers to turn round and say "you know what, yeah, gotta hold our hands up and say we were out of order that day and made a mess of the place."

But the point blank refusal to even acknowledge this, and 13 pages of this thread, demonstrate perfectly why I feel like I do about those two teams.

Why the steadfast denials? Worried there may be Celtic fans waiting for you to 'trip up' so they can all go "ooo, look, the Gers fans have admitted it!!"

It's almost like the 'he said Jehovah" sketch in the Life of Brian.

FFS!

If you all think Rangers fans' behaviour was exemplary that day, surely it should strengthen any City fans' resolve to have nothing to do whatsoever with these people.

A very small minority of Rangers fans - and other nobheads - were out of order that day.

The vast majority were very well behaved. That is the facts whether you like it or not.

There were many people out that day to cause bother, and I know for a fact there were lads out from City, United, Oldham and a good few other teams.

If you put 100k people together from any walk of life, you are going to get some twats - that's what happened, to tar all Rangers fans with the same brush is farcical, but that's what continues to happen & that's why people continue to defend the majority.

Did not want to really get involved in this argument but it is starting to piss me off.
I went to Manchester that evening with some mates to sample the atmosphere. Incidently not that it matters but I am English and RC. We first went to the screen showing at the Town Hall which was caged in and many fans locked out, we ended up watching the game outside the Triangle (the old corn exchange) I or my mates did not witness any violence whats so ever. The only agression we did witness was "some" GMP who were dressed in short sleaves shirts on a warm evening but wearing black leather gloves (not exactly PR Policing).
Violence of any sort is not acceptable but some of the blame has to be directed at the GMP, the city council and the pubs and other licence outlets who were quiet happy to sell them as much booze as they wanted.
Manchester made a lot of money out of the Glasgow Rangers fans that day. The majority were law abiding and were let down badly by a minority.
Imagine if the boot was on the other foot. City are in the final and it is to be played in Glasgow. even without a ticket how many city fans would want to travel up there just to be part of the atmosphere, only to be told by their chief of police you are not wanted. We arrive in the city in our thousands, we spend our money and they are happy to take it but dont bother to organise any extra toilet facilities. They errect a number of screens around the city, thousands of city fans assemble at one of the screens only to find out just before the game was about to start that it would not be shown. What do you think would happen?
