By the way . 9-30 am on the morning of the game .
Yes, infact, I lived right in the city centre.

Had the pleasure of watching your unwashed lot parading up the road singing about being up to their necks in fenian blood. Aah, it was just like being home.

i was 10 at the 5-1 derby. me and my dad got in about 30 - 40 minutes before kick-off. as the kippax started to fill up, their was clear chanting of celtic / rangers prior to kick-off. i asked my dad why this was and he said that city fans prefer rangers and united prefer celtic. this seemed to make sense as my brother had a half united half celtic hat and the opposite was available at city. city's souvenir shop sold rangers shirts at the time. i also remember being terrified when it went off in the north stand and wanting to go home. i remember the walk back to the car when there wasn't a rag in sight and all the blues were hanging out of cars with commentary being played on radios and horns blaring.
there are a lot of games i don't remember much about due to them being boring or me being pissed over the following years, but i'll never forget this day.
I really don't recall the Celtic/Rangers chanting but I do recall exactly what I was wearing, 1. how much I drank and who I was stood with! :-) I also recall plenty of singing that had more to do with air disasters and digging up the corpse of a certain rag manager.

City souvenir sellers always used to sell BOTH City/Rangers and City/Celtic ski hats.

But let's make 2 things clear:

1) I almost feel like a dirty Celtic apologist on this thread as I seem to be attacking Rangers - I am not as I despise everything both Rangers and Celtic stand for.

2) Whether anyone likes it or not, there is 2. no official link between City and ANYONE.

1. so you'd had a good drink then? why as a 10 year old would i imagine this? what time did you get in the ground? as i said, it was prior to kick-off. i also remember what i was wearing, who i was with, being shit scared, seeing only a handful of reds before the game and none afterwards.

2. i know there is no official link. i also know there are thousands of city fans that don't give a fuck about celtic or rangers. however, just on the strength of this thread, you must also concede that there are a good few that prefer one or the other and that's the point i'm trying to make. there is more connection with united and celtic admittedly, although that is waning. when i was growing up in the 80's though, it was definately there.

only from a united pov. if celtic have unofficial links with any english clubs its liverpool. there are as many celtic-pool fans as celtic-rags. they've a bigger friendship with barcelona (fan wise) and an official link/friendship with st pauli from the bundesliga who sell each others kits in their stores. celtic fans have friendly links with many clubs in europe. only fans who support both will play up any link. they've more in common socially and politically with barcelona, as those types of links are the norm in european football outside of england that is probably the only country to not have political football.

there is no link and never has been a link with united, united fans seem to believe this link myth because they were almost called manchester celtic donkeys ago and because of busby "preferring" catholic players, yet he signed george best from protestant east belfast.....

I can see plenty on here with split loyalties; mine aren't. City are my all.

What saddens me is reading perceived links with other clubs that don't exist, diluting support for the club I love. Even sadder reading is some notion that our support be divided and defined along religious lines.

I'm a City fan first and foremost. It makes not a jot of difference whether I am Sikh, Hindi, Muslim, Chrsitian, Atheist or Jedi. It does not inform who I support or force me, bizzarely, to support multiple teams.

Like I inferred in another post, so much potential for conflict of interest. I want to go to the match as a City fan, with City fans. When I come on a City board, I'd like to post with other City fans. When someone asks me who I support, I respond without hesitation that "I am a City fan."

I don't sit and ponder the question, try and judge who's asking me the question before deciding to respond "City/Celtic/Rangers/Motherwell/Darlington" or whatever.

I'm a City fan. Pure and simple.

I was in Town the day Rangers visited and even if you weren't you would have seen the pictures in the news and so on, it was a disgrace. I saw them pissing in public on buildings and not even out of sight, just in broad daylight, I saw some of them them smashing up a shop window down Oxford Road and most of them just generally littering. There was one woman who even came up to my mate and started shouting at him when we were in the food court waiting for our food and some guy punched another of my mate's legs when we were just walking down Oxford Road and he was walking past us. I went for a few pints then in Withington that night with some other mates and we decided to move on into town for a few and the place looked like a bomb had hit it or there had been some sort of zombie invasion like in 28 Days Later.

You think when we open our city up to people like that they'd appreciate it and not cause trouble but I was shocked by what actually happened, if it was up to me all the main pubs and bars in Manchester would have to refuse anyone wearing a Rangers shirt next time and refuse to sell alcohol to them if they were wearing a Rangers shirt.

They will be playing at the swamp against the rags so they can steer clear of Manchester, this city is ours.

Should be some draconian measures brought in for it.

Bus them in to the ground if they have a ticket and then straight back out again afterwards.

If they've no ticket, simply put them on a bus back to Glasgow. If they somehow manage to return, nick them. Simples.

Ok Breadsnapper, got the guys age wrong, Manchesters finest don't pick on 72 year olds, it's 61 that's a bit better.
Got the period he was in hospital wrong too, it was 5 months not 3.

Whilst trying to shelter on his own in a doorway away from the trouble after the Uefa Cup Final, he was told to "move move move" by Manchester Police before being pushed to the ground and beaten. He was left in agonising pain on the pavement and was only helped to medical attention by two strangers.

He suffered a broken hip and perforated bowel due to the attack, and spent ten days in intensive care following an emergency procedure, followed by another 5 months in hospital.

A formal complaint was made by the gentleman's daughter and an investigation was launched. I have been told that the whole saga is reaching a conclusion and it looks like GMP have rightly been found liable and he is to be substantially compensated (hence why I haven't named him or provided a link).

So here we have another insight into the other side of the Manchester debacle, and again finding the GMP wanting.

BTW. YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT.
