Rangers thread | 2025/26

I think people look at the 1 in 9 with Gerrard without any context.

This was the team that played in the last game of the season before Gerrard took over, drew 5-5 at Easter Road.

Alnwick, Tavernier, Martin, Bates, Halliday, Rossiter, Goss, Holt; Candeias, Cummings, Murphy.

The last Old Firm result previous to that was a 5-0 defeat to Celtic, and the last European result was being beat in the Europa League qualifiers by Progres from Luxembourg.

To go from how far Celtic were ahead of us when he took over, to beating them to a league title unbeaten and making Europa League quarter finals within a couple of seasons was night and day.

His biggest disappointment was their performance in domestic cup competitions, and that will need to improve. He certainly wasn't perfect, but it was 1 of the only times in the last 15 or so years i'd say Rangers actually felt like the Rangers of old in terms of connection with fans, standards, and just the way he acted and carried himself.
You must sad though of the quality of the managers they seem interested in.
Everything Souness and Smith built to this shitshow you have now.

That’s almost a C&P from FF or I’ve found your login in FF : )))))

OK he did well winning 55 but I’d counter your argument with….

He was given funding to rebuild and stop them getting 10. His mate , Dave King, admitted the funding was front loaded

He inherited an excellent Tavenier and Ryan Jack who were excellent. He also inherited a very motivated Morelos!! We have no player of their standard at the moment

That Celtic team were well past their best and very much hanging on to get the ten. Much like our 9 in a row team.

He was lucky to keep his job after losing to Hamilton just before the lock down.

You can’t just gloss over failing to win any domestic cup competition. Failing to reach group stages of the Champions league. Blocking the sales of Kent and Morelos (among others) costing the club tens of millions as these players went on to leave at end of contracts.

He did win 55 and I’ll be forever grateful. The manky mob completely imploded under the pressure of ‘10’. I believe our players benefited greatly from the empty stadium. We saw in previous seasons the post winter collapses from promising positions.

No domestic cup win is a sort state of affairs.

Souness was the same as Gerrard when he was appointed first time, in fact Souness was appointed Player Manager.

Smith was promoted just from Souness assistant, and had only ever actually managed at Scotland youth levels.

They weren't great managers in their own right when they were hired.

However, I totally agree, outwith Gerrard and McInnes, the options don't look great at all. I'm still intrigued by Muscat, although I understand the desire for a 'safer' pair of hands.

My only posts on the Gerrard thread was that I had heard the names Gerrard, McAlister, Defoe, Culshaw and Billy Reid from a couple of days ago. I heard that from a client who have corporate stuff at Rangers so no idea how reliable the info they get are.

I do get all the concerns mate, I don't think Gerrard is perfect by any means, but I do think given how lost we are we need someone that can unite the club and fanbase first and foremost, we need a leader, we need someone that will come in and give the team a structure, that the players will identify with and respect, and that understands the demands of the club, and of Scottish football, and Gerrard ticks those boxes.

Normally I'd be taking the piss about Messiahs, Coming again, scousers, CL finalists This Year!

Tragically our **** board have robbed me of all joy and optimism.

This is the worst Jim.
All those trophies….

All that money in the bank….

And of course the first Celtic board to admit the disgraceful behaviour that others enabled and covered up. However reluctantly. (Possibly doing Fergus McCann a disservice here. Then again he was hated as well)

Its the lack of ambition, we got to a bit better, we have a lot of money(relatively), and here we are , shit again. Left the door open for you to take over. Appalling lack of balls.

If we tooled up and moved on from the Bayern, you would be out of sight in our rear view mirror. Now you have more money and we have stalled to wait for you. I wouldn't be surprised if you beat us at Hampden, then won the league. That's criminal negligence.

We had an opportunity to be out of sight, as per, our board shat it.

Not a happy bunny.

I wasn't ever convinced with him coming back anyway so pretty unmoved by him not being in for it anymore though these talks did seem to be advancing well. It would be interesting to see where and when it really broke down.

The 1/100 odds on Danny Rohl must have some substance to them then! I know zero about him.

I’ll be lucky to get through the next 24 hours without a ban from FF!

I’d be worried Benny Boy.
