How do you fix it?
A striker who gets in the box and gives defenders something to think about...creates chances and converts them. We didn't have a striker and as such were running up dead ends over and over and over. When the ball did make it across the box we had midfielders staring at the ball from 10 yards away.

The creativity changes or is enhanced by having an intimidating presence in the opposition box. We just haven't had it in so long. Not scoring in open play doesnt knock you out of competitions however...conceding does.

I like your posts and agree with much of what you write but on this we differ on the small details.

There is so much agreement amongst all fans on this - but the question that most/all of those that are critical cannot seem to answer is - Beyond Kane, who are the genuine options that a) are of the sufficient quality - not simply a make-do and b) were attainable

So many (most) of those bemoaning the lack of a striker - are unable to put forward many (actually any really) options

What is this drivel?
It is Fernandinho the defensive midfielder a position he hardly played last season, is unlikely to improve on that this season, a position we have only one other choice in. and the position the Club did not want him in.

5 For me.

Squad looks unbalanced.

Fern worries me, he looks his age and it's not time to put the clocks back yet, so it's asking a lot of Rodri, with the amount of games we play.

Still think the lack of a top class striker will come back and bite us in the big games.

Delighted Bernardo and Laporte are still here, a huge bonus, if we had lost either it would have been a 2 or 3 window rating.

I don't get why everyone is complaining. We have an amazing squad that re-invents itself every year!

Who would have thought that last year Gundogan will be our top scorer. This year Torres is going to impress and score lots of goals and Jesus is like buying a new right winger!!!

We have 3 of the best CBs in the PL if not the world in our team. Cancelo has been great on the left in the last 2 games

Grealish is a solid addition that can give Sterling competition. Bernardo is playing his best football again.

We can compete and beat any team in the League and if we are consistent we can retain the league!

Let's have some faith in our players!

We're not evaluating the squad we have, but the transfer window.

Totally agree. Who was out there? Kane - too expensive. Haaland, the same. Mbappe, the same and seemingly is destined for Madrid. Lewandowski maybe, but would also be very expensive for his age as well as lining Bayern's coffers for a crack at Haaland.

Feels like most others would've been just 'doing a job' or a development project, which we've already got in Ferran and Delap, whilst retaining that Kane money for a crack at Haaland next time around.

Kane would've made the 10. Think Pep makes it work though - a fluid front 3 is a challenge for any defense, and we should be able to bag enough goals. Our opposition all looks a bit stronger though so we will see if it is enough

If one position could have been added given the Grealish purchase it would have been DM and that is where we might struggle in key games this season.

Of course had we got a striker it would have been a bonus and notwithstanding the Mendy situation I think we can cope without him in the side ok.

Chelsea and Manure appear to have improved their squads to some degree over the window but if we can stay relatively injury free or only have some short term issues throughout the season we can be competitive again but to ask for a run away league title like two of the last three have been is maybe asking for too much with this squad.

Indeed - that bit I have highlighted I think is important and something some miss - If we had gone for Lewandowski we could have been helping fund Haaland for Bayern

The bottom line is that there was not an alternative to Kane of the right quality and price that was attainable - the club could have been more deserving of criticism if it had recruited some 'makeweight' just to placate the demands of some fans

Thankfully we are managed by top professionals
