To be clear, this is ALL the rules say:

120

Serious foul play

A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality

against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play.

A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as

serious foul play.

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the

front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force

and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.

Advantage should not be applied in situations involving serious foul play unless

there is a clear subsequent opportunity to score a goal. The referee must send

off the player guilty of serious foul play when the ball is next out of play.

A player who is guilty of serious foul play should be sent off and play is

restarted with a direct free kick from the position where the offence occurred

(see Law 13 – Position of free kick) or a penalty kick (if the offence occurred

inside the offender's penalty area).

There is nothing in there about 2-footed challenges being illegal per se.
Yet Attwell sent off Milijas at Arsenal, and the FA Disciplinary panel rejected the appeal so they don't govern the game by their own rules.

As you say though the rules are clear Serious Foul Play = Lunge And excessive force which endangers opponent

The FA know they have a poor standard of refs but the only thing they can really do is protect their poorest ones, like Attwell, Foy and Walton, because who else do they have?

It's like Liverpool w/Suarez, they picked the wrong option in protecting their asset wrongly, that backfired too.

My only point really was just to dispell this myth that all 2-footed challenges are automatically illegal.

Can we just discuss the various ins and outs of the sending off, rather than threatening all sorts against Foy, we are better than that much better than that!

Foy deserves everything he gets. Better than that...you mean, what will others think.

Well fuck the lot of em, we need to look after ourselves and stop being so respectful as its obviously only one way.

If the FA see protecting the egos of their referees as being more important than ensuring fair play then that's their problem not ours, and shouldn't stop the club appealing this obvious mistake.

It's nothing like Liverpool with Suarez. He was guilty of using insulting and racist language and Liverpool's defence of him is almost as bad as the offence itself.

Even more circumspect than that, I don't think the sending off cost us the game.

We lost the game when (a) Balotelli and Dzeko were unfit and Yaya was told he couldn't play, and (b) when Mancini (quite understandably) decided at 0-3 it was better to take Silva and AJ off.

If I was to be harsh I would also add (c) playing Kolorov instead of Clichy.

Be interesting to know who sits on these appeals. wwwthefa.com vague

Disciplinary Commissions are comprised of three Disciplinary Committee
members plus a member of the specialist panel comprised of former players,
managers, referees and administrators. The composition of each Disciplinary
Commission is decided by the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee.
