are you talking about The Beer House? its called The Angel now and still does real ale, and it has a award winning chef (so I've heard) TBH I just walk a bit further and go to the Marble Arch

The Angel (Beer Engine as was) is in new (ish) hands again, and has toned down the food side of things in favour of the wet side. Does some great beers....and is ideally placed to enjoy both it and the Marble too....(and The Smithfield and Bar Fringe also within staggering distance) sadly that jukebox is no more......
Used to get off bus and into Market Tavern, one round the back that was full of boxing photos, walk up to Beer Engine, on to Marble Arch, back into town via Land 'o' Cakes, Gullivers and a few around that area. Circus Tavern and Grey Mare and the Holt's next door - happy days!!

More and more young people are drinking it now, it's a growth area in the beer market

I like Rev. James

-- Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:12 pm --

More and more young people are drinking it now, it's a growth area in the beer market

Full of earwigs and bits of twigs. Drank by men with strange beards and bells on their feet.
I like my beer chemically cleaned, chilled and filtered.

While that stereotype is alive and well, it's a myth that all real ale, or as I prefer to simply call it 'Beer' drinkers are like that. Far from it.....just people who prefer to taste something other than ice cold and fizzy stuff that gets you drunk...and beer can be either 'light' as in % or can be so ridiculously high as to wipe the floor with generic lagers...

''Free your mind, and your ass will follow''...

But I haven't got an Ass, just a wire-haired Fox Terrier.

Posted on a similar thread last month, some ales are very good indeed!
I really like a real ale from the Lake District called Snecklifter, it's brewed there by Jennings.
It tastes a bit like Newcastle brown ale (which I like)..however I feel it has a bit more flavour and body than a bottle of dog!
Always try new ales whenever I can!

As I make beer for a living, it is very good to see that there are Blues on here who drink real ales. They can be wonderful, wonderful brews. Someday, I will fulfill one of my deepest wishes by attending a match at Eastlands and having a pint or six somewhere in Manchester.

I am already hatching a plan to brew a special beer to celebrate if we win the FA Cup! It will surely piss off all the American rags I deal with every day...
