Real Madrid (A) Post Match Thread

They did drop in the rest of extra time. We hardly layed a glove on them. The last 20 minutes should have been a siege. That is the bit that bothers me. I believe the first two goals were freakish really. Just a glitch in a game we had controlled. We had plenty of time but never looked like coming back. That was poor.
Real managed the extra time there was no opportunity to get hold of the game they used the dark arts aided by a complicit official, it would have been the same if they had managed to score first in the 90mins

Mate pls spare me the sentiment. Big UCL night's the same players have costs us game. It's all good winning games against Everton and Watford but we need big performances in big games like yesterday, and when you look back at all our last UCL exits its the same 3 players that have made BIG ERRORS leading to us losing.

Sometimes we have our hands tided and pep very rarely has had a full squad to pick in big Champions League games. walker and a cover player at left back in cancelo ? We are short in terms of squad depth in key places.
city need to buy 2 left backs in the summer and a right back cover for walker then maybe the panic in laporte having to cover the left back all the time will stop ? full fit city team last night would not lose that game.

Also KDB is not 100% fit and can not find any sort of form ? and in this false 9 he is being asked to play deep and try to control the game ?

There is a case for saying it is not our fault, it just seems to go against us. The ref was weak and a stronger one would have got them down to ten men. A couple of goal-line scrambles could have gone either way, and although Walker was heroic, if he had been fully fit and stayed on, we would have got through. Grealish came close twice before the end of normal time, that almost doubles his contribution this season. I just hope the reverse psychology kicks in and Liverpool get complacent, RM have enough to deny them the Champions League, and if the lads are mentally strong enough there is no reason why we can’t win the remaining Premier League games, with or without Walker and Stones. That said, I am disappointed with some on here, call yourselves City fans? We outplayed Europe’s most legendary club and two incredible football matches. No way could Liverpool or anyone else provided so much skill over 210 minutes of football. We were compromised defensively both legs, due to injury and suspensions, so just remember how it was a few years ago. We are always in the mix, and whatever the media say today, a few weeks ago they said we were ruining football by being so dominant. let Liverpool ruin football.

I didn’t sleep a wink, kept seeing their players names in my head over and over. That’s got to be the worst result we’ve suffered in my days and I’m 57.
I just hope the players & Peps heads don’t drop but I fear they will and we’ll end the season with nothing, all the bullshit media against us time after time must surely be starting take its toll, I know it has with me.
Always a Blue but feeling down and out today.
I feel the hurt mate, but knowing Pep & the lads they'll redouble their efforts on Sunday so the whole season doesn't turn to shit. The Premier League is still in our hands & we've now gotta do our best to be crowned the best team in England, if only to stop the Dippers doing a quadruple which we'll never hear the last of!

UEFA, The G14 & the global media got the glamour tie those behind the European Super League wanted. Well I for one won't be watching, & albeit I hate the bastards I'd prefer a Real win, but based on last night's performance I can't see it to be honest.

We had our best chance to be Champions League winners last season & to be honest the needless defeat to Chelsea hurts more than last night's defeat. Against Real this can happen with the strikeforce they have. Against Chelsea, Pep's brain fart cost us that game before a ball had been kicked.

It is what it is mate. I still feel sickened & there's a media & messages blackout from me today. Thank fuck for Bluemoon for providing a space where I can shamelessly ball my eyes out with others feeling the same suicidal emotions as me! Lol :-)

‘All good winning games against Everton and Watford’ ffs you do know we have a very good chance of winning the Premier League again? That wound be 3 out of the last 4 seasons. Some of the attitude from our fans is frankly pathetic.
You can't be serious can you?? This Premier League should have been won already, we let Liverpool back into the race.

Let me rephrase, it's all good performing well against Mid-table sides but when it comes to big games againts top PL opposistion and in UCL some of our players dont raise their game and I can't offer any other explanation except that they are not good enough.

For a team supposedly the best in the world at keeping the ball the fact we couldn't keep hold of it deep in their half for another 90 seconds is mystifying to say the least
We completely buckled under the pressure and conceded shape and possesion away to Atletico as well.
This season's team just weren't as good as we thought, let's hope it's enough for a title and then go again next year with reinforcements

It’s results against the mid table teams that have let us down Palace Saints & Spuds (at the time) We beat Chelsea and Arsenal twice

Here is a clip of a goalkeeper making a 65 yard assist. 6 seconds from keeper to back of the net. If it's a minimum of 3 minutes 3 minutes should have been played. He played 2.51. Yes I'm bitter!

Fact is that nowhere near enough time was added on at the end of extra time and what extra minutes were announced weren't fully played. As you say, that 3 minutes is supposed to be a minimum.

I'm not just blaming the officials as our team need to take some responsibility for not seeing this through but even some Liverpool fans on Twitter are saying it was dodgy!

I am the same vintage as you pal, the media and establishment have got into our heads. I cant bare to watch a City game with commentary on, I would rather watch in silence if I’m not at the game. It’s a war of attrition, drip drip drip, all the time, first of all they want Pep gone, that’s their first priority, secondly they want Mansour to sell up, which he doesn’t need to, so they will continue to throw shit at us, anything we achieve isn’t valid. This no doubt impacts the players and obviously Pep, at some point he will need to recover because he has faced a never ending onslaught. The media onslaught also pays dividends with our players having the fuck kicked out of them pretty much every game. Leeds away, Atletico away probably this seasons two stand out games of total shithousery. having said all that we can still finish this season in a high. Four wins and we deprive our enemies of the one title they want more than any other.

To coin your own phrase

You can't be serious can you ??

It's still hard to wake up this morning and realise we lost a game we had in the bag with minutes to go. It's baffling. How? A lack of leadership on the field? Big name players freezing on the biggest stage? Individual errors? Fear? The absolute bloody minded determination to win at all costs by going down, feigning injury disrupting another teams momentum when they are on top? A bit of all those points I fear.

The warning signs have been there a fair few times this season in all honesty. The Leeds game set alarm bells ringing for me, coming just before Madrid.. The result looks easy, 4-0 away from home. However time and time again they got behind our defence and only poor finishing, luck and last ditch defending stopped them scoring two or three themselve. This was Leeds, a team near the bottom and possibly getting relegated. Another easy win looking at the result, Watford at home, 5-1 but they again breached our defence easily a few times too and we let in a soft goal.

Against better quality they do score. Spurs, Liverpool, now Madrid. We get punished. Now of course that will happen against better teams but some of their goals were preventable with better defending and goalkeeping. Which leads on to a couple of unpopular opinions that evoke strong reactions when mentioned.

Cancelo. Great going forward with some world class passing but often a liability verging on a disaster at times when defending. Ederson. A cult figure who's ability with his feet and passing is central to our game, no doubts there. He does however let some soft preventable goals in and doesn't command his box. When under pressure he gives me the jitters. Laporte. Fetches the ball out well, great vision in his passing but in big games against better opposition he costs us time and time again.

We need some steel in this side, a mean horrible streak, some leadership and balls when we are up against it to go with all the fine football. We need a world class left back, a rugged hard leader at centre half and one in central midfield. We need our modern day Andy Morrison, possibly two, to calm the younger heads and look after them a bit. The opposition needs to look at them in the tunnel and know if they want it they're fucking having it.

Last night Madrid and Ancelotti had learnt from the first leg. They marked our main man KDB out of the game and smothered Rodri from fetching the ball out. They knew they'd get chances and pre game needed just one goal. The Mahrez goal 15 minutes from time should have been game over but due to some of the points raised above and a bit of desperation and luck it wasn't and we lost. Big decisions need to be made in the summer as this squad needs refreshing to keep us competing at the top level.

So let me rephrase it for you.We have NOT been beaten by Liverpool, Chelsea,Arsenal and Tottenham is our only away loss so far this season. We knocked out the Spanish Champions and also topped the CL Table in our group and yet you come up with this crap that we don`t raise our game.
Complete load of bollocks mate.

Yep not good enough. On the verge of our 3rd premier league title in 4 years. Some of our players have their faults but your posts are ridiculously OTT. Cancelo has been integral to this team that may win back-to-back titles.
