Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

The reason a player remains active when behind goal line is to stop them deliberately stepping off to play a player offside It was changed awhile ago for this reason
My reading of law 11 is that it doesn't differentiate between a player stepping of the pitch deliberately to gain an advantage and one whose natural momentum takes him of the field of play

Correct however they changed the interpretation to ensure that the deliberate act couldn’t benefit difficult to determine wether it’s deliberate or otherwise

Never understood that being off the pitch in that position is playing the attacker onside, until ref watch .

Another shool day .
Otherwise any defender near the touchline could step off the pitch hoping for an offside if they couldn't affect the ball

Don’t think McBurnie impeded Ederson anyway so still wouldn’t have been offside
Definitely right in his line of vision and almost on the path of the ball, might well have been disallowed imo except for Kyle
Just before it reached the goalscorer, there was also a deliberate obstruction on Gvardiol which hampered him from getting closer

He was nowhere near the path of the ball

Updated bb4tm scores.

Would have been 2.5 but for sadly the correct rules being known for Walker's lie down.

Jones 1 game 3 out of 5
Pawson 1 game 5 out of 5
Gillett 1 game 3.5 out of 5

Cheers, just crossed my mind when seeing Kyle have his little lie down.

It‘s never happened to my knowledge.
Years ago we were playing at Wolves when Adebayor was still with us. He was in the area going towards the by line. He stopped the ball, which remained in play, but their momentum took him and the defender over the line. Adebayor turned quicker that the defender, who clipped him.

Even though the foul took place outside the area, the ref correctly awarded a penalty for two reasons. One, you can’t have a free kick in the dead ball area. Two, more importantly, players are not permitted to leave the field of play without the referees permission. If they do, they are deemed to be on the field at the point where they left it, which in that case was in the area, so a penalty was the correct decision.

For the same reason Kyle was playing everybody onside for their goal on Sunday.

Even if he was in an offside position, he was nowhere near his line of vision
