Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

Even if he was in an offside position, he was nowhere near his line of vision

Gvardiol was in a poor posistion exposing the far post. Whether he took the wrong line running to cover I dont know, I will have to look at a replay. The thing I do notice is the lack of our players behind the ball in the box as opposing teams always seem to have about 10 players behind the ball when we attack. If Walker didn't just lie there he maybe could have covered the far post. Anyway we won, onwards and upwards.

Having played in goal for many years when attempting to save a shot you can get affected by an attackers positioning even if he is not blocking your view.
Doesn’t make him offside though if he isn’t blocking your sight of the ball or physically preventing you reaching it.

We got away with one yesterday.

Akanji is directly in the line of the ball going into the net and when the ball went near him, the keeper actually stutters a bit.

Akanji even knew, it was the guiltiest walk away I’ve ever seen, haha

Clearly offside. Although VAR had to clear that up of the pitch-officials thought it should have stood.

Other than that, Oliver had a good game.

He may have been offside but he wasn’t directly in the sight lines of the keeper and that is what is important. The keeper was stupid as he should have done everything he could to save the header as he knew Manu was offside so even if he had flicked it the goal wouldn’t have counted. Oliver gave the goal, then consulted with the liner, who incidentally didn’t raise his flag, and gave the goal again. Takes a brave inexperienced VAR to then ask Oliver to have a look at the monitor. It’s the law that is wrong and we will see as many of those goals not given as given this season. It didn’t make a difference though to the result although made the second half easier.

I think Akanji falls into this offside law:
  • making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball
He’s in an offiside position and almost steps over the ball which impacts the keeper’s dive. Keeper hesitates because he thinks Akanji might play the ball.

I don’t think VAR would ask Oliver to look at it, aren't offsides the decision of VAR?

The being active element is down to the referee’s judgement and Oliver should have been sent to the screen to make his own decision. Imho.

The potential offside goal aside, I thought Oliver was disproportionate in the way he was reffing the game.

Early doors there was a clear foul on Foden that he let go, and then shortly afterwards he gave one against Rodder's which was NEVER a foul.

This continued up to the end of the first half right up to that fuck up with the potential offside goal which could easily have been ruled out.

Olver tried it on in the second half, but we switched gear and nullified him.

This is the content we’ve all been WAITING for. Disregarding the part of the game where we got lucky with a decision, the referee was still BENT against us.

Lolz.
