Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

Came here to post that. Thought ref's had lines of where they're supposed to be to keep them out of the action. Don't just stand in the middle of our passing lanes you doofus. So many times he was stood right next to Rodri in the middle of the pitch today it made me angry.
Me too. When you have to keep saying "get out of the way ref" you know there is something wrong with the referee's positioning. It's happening more and more.

Apart from not booking Coufal, I thought he was very good yesterday.

I liked how he didn’t keep stopping the game for minor infringements and let the game flow.

And the game did flow, maybe off the back of that. The game was really active with very few stoppages in play. Apart from the goals, the subs, Dias+Antonio’s head bump and Gvardiol’s poor tackle on Bowen(?), there were no real stoppages at all.

At 0-0, 1-0 and 1-1, West Ham didn’t time waste at all.

Credit to the ref and both teams.

Madly kept getting in the way.
It happens a lot and I notice it always happens with heavy possession teams who play with their entire outfield team in the opposition half and the entire defending team sitting back.

There’s nowhere for the ref to go really when 21 players are in one half of the pitch. Move further back and he’d be too far away from the action in the box when the ball moves forward quickly, move over left/right and he’d be too far away from the action of where the ball is, move into the box and he’d be more threateningly in the way of goalscoring opportunities.

Yeah that is possibly the reason. It does happen a lot.

I would love it, just love it if next time it happens Rodney takes aim with a thunderbastard and puts the ref on his arse.

Give Pep a month and he'll work a system out that the ref being in the way will be to our advantage.
Football at city is on another level and perhaps we have backroom analysis on the ref's that the player's are instructed on before each game.
No stone left unturned - different levels of preparation these days compared to the past.
Can't see Pep sending them out with "This ref's a ****" without explaining why.

His time management was poor. Given there was a very long goal celebration first half plus a few stoppages including a head injury, and a lot of delays by Areola, I thought 2 mins injury time first half was way too low under the new rules. However he was the ref v Everton at home last season where his time management was shambolic.

I thought his overall game management however was much improved, other than I thought a lot of fouls on Doku went unpunished, or was that just the view from the away end?

This is quite telling on how the refs are just not up to it

As says rivalries aside this is poor, even eddie can take time when the opposition presses the box on our goal kicks, to adjiist his pass.

If it is genuine time wasting book the goalie, don't tell them how to play though

That’s just an excuse to try and get away with taking forever over goal kicks. They were supposedly taking ages over them yesterday after going a goal up.

The SU manager is talking bollocks, he was booked for handling outside the box and he complains. His shithouse tactics are ruining the game more than the refs.

Foderingham went down injured against City to allow a team talk.
