Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

Ref booked Walker early, then stopped booking players for holding, late in the game he ran up to a wolves player reaching for his pocket, realized he had already booked the player and stopped, Wolves used him like a tool, they were quite happy giving away fouls, slowing the game down, even picking up bookings, as they knew the ref would never send anyone off.

Said it before, there is no justification for "letting more go" or "applying a higher bar" when one team plays a physical defensive game and the other a sophisticated possession game. Leave that to City vs Arsenal or Spurs vs Liverpool, but it happens every week with us whoever we play. It's an easy way of stopping us playing the way we want to play. Level playing field, my arse.

what is a higher bar, apparently we were playing with one at Anfield last season, well at least until Foden scored, then the VAR forensics team went into over drive to find a foul miles back in the move, a foul that would have been let go if no goal had been scored, not as though any of us knew, because Liverpool choose not to have a big screen

Well quite. That is the other problem with "higher bar". Consistency. Within games as you point out, but also over the season. How can you referee games differently when the consequences include a player being banned or not for a red card, or an accumulation of yellow cards, based on a referee's whim on how he should referee a game? It's unnecessary, it's unfair and it is against "sporting integrity", which is apparently important this week for some reason. It's just another PGMOL shit-show.

This higher bar bullshit is nonsense, there are one set of laws, like you say, undermines integrity

Arsenal have had 5 pens already ! Ffs.
They're the 'go to' team this season, the rags had an early helping hand but it was obviously never going to work every game.

This weekend has managed to stop us pulling away and has been the culmination of the last 2/3 games frustrating our players so they'd react and they got gold with it being Rodders.

Expect him to be a target every match now.

My point is he's remained consistent throughout today which is the single biggest thing fans moan about. Can't really have a go at a ref for actually staying consistent when that's what we beg for.

Ake and kovacic could and should have both been booked way before the hwang second yellow incident but he choose to ref the game much more leniently from the off so we can't then moan at him for not being inconsistent.

I think it's a yellow card 8, maybe 9 times from 10 by the way but given the leniency he showed before that, I can't see too much cause for complaint and then he's stayed consistent for the rest of the game right until the end by not sending doku off.

If he had shown us a series of soft yellows and not sent hwang off then let rip but he's refused the game at a consistent high bar for the whole 90.

Isn't that consistency though?
As I said on a different thread, high bar my fucking arse
