Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

It still amazes me that we now have 5000 cameras at a game but the refs still can't get it right.

VAR is able to take as long as it needs to measure how many atoms are offside but it can't improve consistency with things like cards. If anything the consistency has got worse since VAR came in.

Christ knows what it was like 50 years ago, at least there wasn't any TV so you never knew!

Just back from the game. Clearly we all had problems with the inadequate Pawson as the wolves fans were being the **** too, but wolves got what they wanted, which was completely disrupting the game by constantly feigning injury. The number of wolves players who died today was incredible and he fell for it every time. 3 mins first half injury time and 6 in second half was woefully short. Ederson would have been off if he’d time wasted like Sa. I also thought Hwang should have been off. Doesn’t hide the fact that we played terribly. Anyone who doesn’t think Godri is our best player is very wrong, and I guess no Godri, Kev, Bernardo and Gundo really caught up with us today.
I was sat in the home end and all the wolves fans around me was thinking at least 10 mins and were surprised when only 6;were shown

I disagree.

The challenge by Hwang on Walker is 100% yellow card no question. The fact that Pawson actually runs towards Hwang had me convinced he was going to send him off but when he saw who it was he gives a little sly smile and just gives the free kick.

With Doku I did think it was a second yellow and I thought Pawson would send him off.

But here's the difference. Doku gets sent off and there's a minute left so it makes no difference to the result.

Hwang gets sent off and Wolves have to play with 10 men for the entire second half and Hwang doesn't score the winner.

We would of battered them in the second half if Pawson wouldn't of bottled it

My point is he's remained consistent throughout today which is the single biggest thing fans moan about. Can't really have a go at a ref for actually staying consistent when that's what we beg for.

Ake and kovacic could and should have both been booked way before the hwang second yellow incident but he choose to ref the game much more leniently from the off so we can't then moan at him for not being inconsistent.

I think it's a yellow card 8, maybe 9 times from 10 by the way but given the leniency he showed before that, I can't see too much cause for complaint and then he's stayed consistent for the rest of the game right until the end by not sending doku off.

If he had shown us a series of soft yellows and not sent hwang off then let rip but he's refused the game at a consistent high bar for the whole 90.

Yes i do, there was no way he was going to send Doku off since he bottled the other decision.

Isn't that consistency though?

He was consistently shit :-)

The one where he pulled it back for a wolves free kick when their player wriggled through 2-3 challenges and was thru to our back 4 was breathtakingly inept

No conspiracy theory - he was shit for both sides and is a really crap ref

That’s right. We all disagreed with some of their decisions, exact the same as we do today. The referees got some decisions wrong because they made a decision in a split second, they didn’t get decisions wrong time after time even after looking at them on videos. As far as I recall, we were told that VAR would improve the game, all I see it’s killed the enjoyment of celebrating a goal and of course, wrong decision after decision.

The amount of time in both halves that wolves players were lying on the floor, the amount of time taken at every wolves goal kick and throw snd the blatant time wasting by Sa, 9 mins in total across both halves was a disgrace. Pawson cannot control or manage a game

Feigning injury and going down for a break in play to stop any momentum is becoming the norm. Every ref stops play and the opposition get a breather.

No different today.
Other teams get 11 or 12 mins in a second half when there’s blatant time wasting, we don’t. Arsenal would have got 12 today. Refs seemingly take great pleasure in booking Ederson and Pep

VAR could look at that one though and could show Rodri put his hands around his neck.

VAR doesn’t look for yellow cards so it’s only at the discretion of the referee on the pitch. I’d that one could be looked at by VAR he’d have gone.
Both are down to the referee an his "interpretation" of the incident.
