Ref Watch

After watching EFL play offs there seem to be some excellent referees coming through, certainly a step up from Mason, Attwell or Moss. Hopefully will be promoted soon.
But will they ref the way Mr Riley wants them to?
When your boss wants results not accuracy promotion may not come your way.

True. Oliver
You rate over from memory though don't you. I have been blasted because i think he and Taylor are our best.
I rate your opinion am I wrong ?
I think Atkinson & Oliver are the best. However, they are the best of a bad bunch. Think Taylor is also not bad.

The worst being Jon Moss (who failed the fitness test 2x last year), Attwell & Mason.

He must be pretty bad to fail the fitness test. When I used to do it for the Unibond League, they always used to extend the time to allow the stragglers to cross the line. You only need average fitness levels to complete almost 400m beyond the minimum.

And yet he is still refereeing each year, amongst the fittest men in the country, and picking up a salary of £70k plus £1500 per match. And that's without any bonuses from his alleged links with syndicates.

Always wondered how I managed to pass the fitness tests. LOL.

When I did my knee I got dispensation 3 years running. Now that was good of the FA but surely not right. Maybe Moss has the same agreement. Another serial failure of fitness tests was Dowd who then got "injured" but was still paid for almost 2 years before being forced to retire

Be interesting to understand the fitness test standards, ie. 2 km in under 10, 5 km in under 160 bpm?

Most refs are quite like a lot of players. Go forward a lot faster than they do coming back. Fit enough to get in our passing lanes when we're attacking, but giving penalties against us from the fucking half way line.

I believe the current fitness tests for PL refs consists of 2 parts.

1. 6 sprints of 40m. These have to be done in 6 seconds or less. There is a few seconds break between each sprint but not sure exactly how long.

2 . 10 laps of a 400 mtr running track. You have to run 75 mtrs in 15 seconds & then walk 25 mtrs in 18 seconds. This is repeated for the full 10 laps.

Cheers, mate. Doesn’t seem too strenuous but would test somebody who has not kept up with their fitness, especially at some of the ages we see in the PL.

I only ask as poor standards of fitness will have an impact on decision making. It would make sense why we see some of the decisions made, some of them just aren‘t up to it physically.

You should try it. Not very easy at all. Should try it one day if you think its not too strenuous.

Last time I had to do a Level 4 test it was 3200 mtrs in 12 minutes. If you passed the finish line before 12 minutes you had to continue running until the 12 minutes was up. Rumour was that when Oliver did the test he was almost 1000 mtrs over when the 12 minutes expired.

About 15 year ago they got us to do a bleep test. Had to get to level 14 to pass the test. 1 lad only managed level 4 which is basically a brisk walk

That second one sounds pretty hard to me.

First one would be dependent on the interval, I guess.
