Ref Watch

You know the drill - Peter 'the ****' Walton and Despot Dermot will be wheeled out to tell us all why it was the 'correct' decision. And despite us being told they are nothing to do with the PGMOL, they sure do back up a lot of their demonstrably incorrect calls. The only ones they do call out are the ones that have no bearing on the result of the game.
Walton was on BT. I think he was about to say that the goal would be chalked off, before the goal was given and the crowd reaction drowned out his diagnosis.

If Akanji fouls him the goal is disallowed because Rashford was offside before the foul is committed. The assistant flagged for offside. The on field decision would be offside before the foul was committed. So it does change what the opponent can do.

Akanji could have fouled him and the goal could not have stood.
The LotG will be tightened up by next Thursday to make sure Spurs, the Dippers, the Rags n' the Arse don't suffer a similar fate.

Check the law, the foul would have occurred before the offside, even if the offside player is attempting to play the ball.
No. The offside offence would have occurred first. Just because there is no immediate flag, it doesn't stop the offside from being the first in the chain of events.

If Akanji had fouled Rashford, it shouldn't have been judged on DOGSO, but on the severity of the foul.

Which is why commentators are always banging on about a player being needlessly injured after playing the phase through when it’s blatantly offside

That's not true.
The decision is only offside if the whistle has gone for it prior to a foul.
The flag going up does not make something offside.
