I was with you up to your last paragraph, reckless tackles are few and far between with Fernandinho, I could probably count on one hand the number he's been guilt of since he signed. Dark arts, that's his forte.

Yep, I phrased that badly. The refs let Fernandinho get away with his practising of the dark arts in a similar way to how Schole's got away with reckless tackles: refs making decisions based on who the player is rather than what the player has done. Schole's tackling was just the most obvious example I could think of where refs consistently don't give out the card deserved based on the player.
