Referees’ Performances 2018/19

It's not laughable at all.

We are being constantly fouled all over the pitch & referees are letting many of them go, especially in the penalty area. It doesn't matter how many we get, it matters how many we don't get.

How many of those pens are against the biggest opponents or in the biggest games ? How many should we have had ? How about illegal goals etc ? How about incidents in the biggest one off games here & in europe ? How many have we had in recent years compared to pretty much everyone else in our position, in every league ?
You’ve just saved me the job of typing something similar.
It’s not the number of penalties but their context in the significance of the game. An 80th minute penalty against Watford when you are 5 up is not quite the same as a 70th minute equaliser and a red card to the Scum denied.

But we are. Over the past 8 years we have received 13 more pens than pool, 18 more than Chelsea, 20 more than United, 23 more than Spurs, 25 more than Arsenal. But yes the refs are refusing to give us decisions, absolutely laughable to say were not being awarded decisions. Like I highlighted yesterday Pool received 3 in 38 matches last season and City fans expected 2 in one half of football against Wolves. There is a complete disparity from the reality between supporters and refereeswhat the threshold is for a penalty to be awarded which fuels this bias nonsense.

So here is a plain and simple question I have for you,I'm not scrolling back through all your posts the last few days, you may have already answered it,but it is difficult when you are evidently becoming as popular as I am on here,to check, but here goes.

Stat site or no stat site,do you think Atkinson reffed our game fairly ?

Whilst you are thinking,I am also interested to see whether you think that Tierney reffed that Newcastle v Chelsea game fairly as well ?

The latter is not really important,as it is us I'm more interested in,but it will paint a picture for me as to the general feelings you have about referees.

And, considering we have so much possession, & teams are often desperately trying to put a foot in, we should be picking up absolute shitloads of free kicks.

Instead the refs hand out free foul tickets, as if it's not fair to the opposition to stop them having the odd foul, to get the ball back & we would end up with 20 odd or 30 free kicks, every game, so let half of them go.
The “niggly” fouls issue is one that has been bugging me more and more recently. The opposition gets a free kick if we blow on them yet we get sneaky pulls, and leg breakers, that continuously go unpunished as if it’s a case of the refs trying to give the opposition a chance as we are so good. It shouldn’t fucking matter and it gets right on my tits.

What drivel. Are you seriously saying we got a record number of penalties? Sky missed that one did they? We might have had more than Chelsea over an 8 year period but that is a meaningless statistic. It is meaningless because what I pointed to is the anomaly that record possession record passes and record touches in an opponents penalty area has not resulted in record penalties. What has happened over an 8 year period is meaningless in this context because we did not dominate the possession statistics under Pellegrini and Mancini they way we do under Pep.

And as for bias being nonsense, you presumably also think by the same logic that there was no bias at work when the rags didn’t concede a single penalty at home under Taggart in a four year period.

I can think of two incidents: the Bravo one on Rooney which could have been given as a pen by some refs & the red card for Mane. We could add the red card for JFE vs Balotelli, but that was so obvious a deliberate foul even Ferguson found it difficult to argue.

I could fill the rest of this page, with incidents going back to Mancini's time etc etc, of major decisions in crucial games, shitting on us.

Just over the last few seasons, we have had huge game changers go against us in the big games in pretty much every competition. From the cup v Arsenal, to the semi v Leicester, Anfield pretty much every time we go there, too many to count, two pens v Utd, Palace record game, Spurs away being given a 3 goal start, Monaco, you can go back each season, & in a decent percentage of the biggest games, we have been shafted.

How many times has it been us getting the benefit, with the ref shafting the opponents in similar games ?

Can I have a go at answering?

Let me think.....

How about never?

This is why the bottom line is we need VAR asap in the Prem. I don’t give two fucks whether there are mistakes in Germany and Spain with its use, it’s a complete impossibility that it can’t benefit us in the long run, and that is exactly the reason why it’s being delayed as long as is feasibly possible.

You said we should receive more penalties and we have but of course its meaningless if it does not suit your narrative.

Its great to see now that myth has been debunked, the narrative (not neccessarily by you) has changed and its oh what minute did we get the pen, was the sun shining bright, who was it against. Can I suggest guys you do a bit of research yourself rather than be blinkered by your own bias?

I don't trust that either.

I think we would have gained from it on this occasion due to te handball, but the two pens for example, we wouldn't get those with v.a.r, but Liverpool & Utd would, & they wouild get them v us for fuck all, so it just changes the method & legitimises it.

If v.ar. was operated honestly & consistently, we would be the team to benefit most & Utd, Liverpool etc the biggest losers. But imo it won't be.

Salah's dives will be pens & Aguero's will be dives, same as.

I already knew we had more pens, for a start, means nothing.

Give me an example of dodgy decisions costing Liverpool games v City, or even just giving City the advantage in a game, over the last 50 years. Then try to explain the number of occasions it's happened the other way.

No doubt it’ll still be bent but it’ll be much more difficult for it to be as bent as it is now, we will benefit and whether that’s only by a fraction it’s still better than nothing.

We’d have gained 2 points from Saturday and that’s a fact.
