Referees/Officials

Although fans of other teams might point to 5 penalties in 8 games being slightly odd. Also, you can't make a link with possession and penalties, given that Arsenal have actually conceded more penalties than they've been awarded, over the same time span.
Arse only have the fourth highest possession in the league, just ahead of the rags who are a long ball team. They spend more time in their own third than we do and less time in the opposition third. Haven't managed to dig out pass stats for the final third and penalty area yet.

They might but there wasn't much doubt about those five penalties.

You can make a link between possession and penalties simply because the more you have the ball the more likely it is you will have it in the opposition's area. It doesn't necessarily follow of course because your possession might be knocking balls around the back 4, but there is a correlation.

Arsenal is an odd one given how many penalties they concede compared to how much possession they have. I haven't seen enough arsenal games to form a view as to whether the penalties they concede are stonewall, soft, borderline or whatever.

The interesting thing so far as City are concerned about conceding is that the penalties we concede are not really a cause for concern. We get the benefit of the doubt sometimes, sometimes not. But there is a huge disconnect between what happened at the beginning of the season in terms of valid shouts for penalties largely being given and the point we have reached where we have had one penalty awarded from about 25-30 valid shouts.

Just think it's a shame that many matches are being ruined by the referees and not just for us.
It's like they want to be the centre of attention. I say, fuck you useless bastards we're here
to watch the real stars. I'm sure it's being done on purpose to get the controversy factor.

Like EPL, Bundesliga is running video assistent trials this season.
For the first part of this season - in 144 matches - 44 clear ref mistakes have been found.
33 of them could have been overruled based on the criteria in place (goals, pens, straight reds and mistaken identity for cards), about 2 decisions per matchday.

Video Assistent Referees (VAR) will be introduced in the Bundesliga from next season, planned for 2018 FIFA WC
and probably for EPL from the season 2018/19.

Will be similar to American Football then and the ref decides when and if he uses VAR.
There are ideas in Germany that it should be similar to tennis, where each team have a certain number of challenges per match.

Rugby has it as well right? Or is that for Tries only?

I don't like the ref deciding when to use it,they can still give teams preferential calls if he wants to
