Thought Atkinson reffed it very well tonight, to his credit.
Can’t believe he only added 3 mins -the **** ruined a weekend away for me when he added 7 in a previous game-apologies to Blues who were there but I’d just run half a marathon and that goal nearly killed me

Is it just me who can’t understand how united get penalty claims reviewed on var, seemingly until they find an angle that allows them to be given a pen, and for ours on several occasions it seems they are not even reviewed once? What the broadcasters do seems to match exactly what the VAR officials do, very sinister

I think it's all part of the computer programming. It's like the questions on The Chase - Dya want Questions A or B . Rags 'n Dippers have VAR A and the rest have VAR B!

I’d also like to know why every single goal of ours, like John Stones’ last night, is reviewed by VAR. This doesn’t happen to any other club, they are only reviewed if something has happened in the build up, it’s very peculiar.

Fernandhinos' goal wasn't reviewed

Is anyone as concerned as i am about the lack of a flag to show offside until the move is over? On 2 occasions lst night, they were allowed to play on and in the worst circumstances someone could have been hurt. There was the Foden disallowed goal, where the keeper came out and could have had a collision but more dangerous was one where Rashford was at least 2 yards off, allowed to play on and 10 seconds later there was a 50/50 on the edge of the box which Stones won. Only then did the flag go up.

Atkinson was excellent last night. Only mistake was non booking for Tom Daley like dive. According to PL stats only 2 players booked for this in the last 12 months. Cannot understand this when simulation is on the list of mandatory yellow cards??

It’s mental, it’s one extreme to the other.

More so when we know the incident is reviewed by var and consequently no excuse for the var official to tell the ref to book him for simulation. It’s pathetic and does nothing to stop them trying it in future.

Really? He booked Cancelo for being pushed over by fatty, he booked Fern for doing less than a scum player did a few mins later on Foden (although to be fair to Phil he just got up and in with it). At least he is consistent, as he set his bar for giving us a pen at the Etihad 3 seasons back for Young’s assault on Sergio. I would say a 6 out of 10 for last night
Also Shaw should have been given a yellow card for his shoulder into Cancelo's chest.

I think they should both have had a yellow for the confrontation, but only Cancelo did, and fatty should have had one for the shoulder, which means he should have been off

Atkinson got in the way of our players a little too much last night.

And another criticism for refs in general is that they book the divers. They've got VAR but aren't using it for this which begs the question as to why not?
Back to our best. We managed to negate the referee last night despite his best efforts to f*ck us over.

It's double jeopardy for the defender. The forward dives but VAR only rules on a foul and the subsequent penalty and probably booking or worse. The forward walks away scot free knowing he can try it again later in the game. A few seasons ago they were apparently clamping down on cheating and banning players retrospectively-whatever happened to that?

Yes that is what my mate has been saying for months now, this playing on risks players getting injured, whereas if the whistle was blown straight away it takes this out the equation, I get that if it’s one of the big/ little toe offsides the lino can’t flag but when it’s patently obvious why can’t they flag then?

I had the impression Cancelo was being booked for the foul on Rashford, tbf it was ok.

Shaw's action was a provocative soft form of violent conduct and in Germany some refs would have sent him off - surely not Cancelo for his angry reaction, which was just ok.

I think if you look at the entire incident, it was a foul, no way was it a yellow card foul, Shaws was a yellow card offence, their altercation was the same for both, so either 2 yellows or no yellow. So it’s either 2 yellows for Shaw and 1 for Cancelo, or 1 for Shaw and none for Cancelo. So the actual action taken was wrong, in my opinion
