'Retiring' football shirt numbers - Bloody stupid idea.
I didn't agree with 'retiring' the 23 shirt when MVF died, and still don't see any reason for any club to stop using any number. It's a pathetic tribute compared to actually naming something in someone's memory.

Yes you get these silly twats in the media who never knew Best as a player who rattle out about the 'Famous No 7 Shirt' that Best wore. Best wore 7-11 and possibly 6. They show their ignorance of the numbering before the likes of United saw there was money to be made from names and numbers.
I seem to remember Colin wearing 4 playing for England at Wembley.

Colin Bell was my hero growing up. Probably the reason I became a City Fan. I am against the idea of retiring the number 8 shirt. It should be used as an inspiration for players coming through to be able to wear the no 8 on the the back of their shirt
