Very sad news. I'm another who was lucky enough to see him play and he was one of my boyhood heroes. We all loved the fact he was a true blue and hated the rags as much as us.

I'm at work and I've just heard the news. I'll echo what Robsta said. I'm old enough to have seen Mike play. I remember the partnership he forged with Dave Watson. 2 phenomenal centre halves who wouldn't take any shit from the opposing forwards. RIP Doyley.

I have just heard this,and am so sad,one of my boyhood hero's,his hate of the red filth just made me look up to him even more.rest in peace,i dont think we will see his like again,as they say-"they dont make them like that anymore"

Mike was before my time but I'll never forget meeting him outside a match in 2004 after my Dad ran to get his autograph like a maniac haha. Couldn't have met a nicer guy and he was a proper fan that loved the club.

RIP Mike and my thoughts are with his family.
