Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

Totally agree with you, I was only pointing out that his transfer fee shouldn't even be mentioned.

I'm mentioning it, because he hasn't signed for the club as an untried kid or a free veteran, he has arrived, as a big money signing, our record signing, at the peak of his career.

Therefore, his hope would be, to make a big impression, become 'undroppable' & be in the running for p.o.t.y. again, not just be a squad player. It's therefore unrderstandable, if he is 'unhappy' this hasn't worked out so far & instead of being a star, he is a peripheral figure.

Make sure you all read the article because what is suggested in the Twitter post by Sam Lee is purely clickbaite. Not once in the article is it said that Mahrez has said a single thing!

Sam contributes to the Bluemoon podcasts but at the end of the day he's a rag, right?

Good , no player should be happy if he ain’t starting, needs to up his work rate and intensity, as already been said he got a bollocking in the derby, no way he could have handled the intensity of the Liverpool game , needs to step up and show his undoubted ability.

Remember Fernandinho grabbing him by the shirt v the rags, needs to work harder to cement a place, but like @aguero93:20 says, i wouldn't want any player at the club if who was happy to be on the bench.
Don’t remember that at all but it just makes you love Fernandinho even more. Very true, if they’re happy on the bench then something isn’t working.

I doubt Pep would want any player that was happy to sit on the bench.

Truth is though he's our record signing and has done nothing all season. He doesn't suit our style and hasn't adapted at all, Sterling and Sane take players on and have the pace to run behind, that's exactly what we want from our two wide players.

Mahrez slows play down, holds on to the ball for too long, doesn't take players on and doesn't have the pace to run past defenders, his entire reportoire is cut back on to his left foot and deliver a decent ball into the box.

Bernardo silva did that for us last season from out wide but with the added bonus of him having more creativity and a much better work rate.

You expect your record signing to have impact on the team, he has none. Hopefully he adjusts and starts making himself a genuine option and not just a body to give sterling or sane a rest. Not only would we have another weapon in attack but he would push sterling and Sane on too as right now there's no debate whos first choice.

We've got a bit of rebuilding to do in the summer with a new midfielder a must, possibly a genuine left back too which would likely mean shuffling the squad around a bit to accommodate that so I don't expect much activity in other areas of the pitch but if he was vocally unhappy and it came to it I wouldn't be against moving him on and bringing in somebody with a more similar skillset to Sane and Sterling.

With Mahrez are we getting what we should be getting out of him playing on the right. It’s so predictable he will slow the play up and cut in and either drop it inside for Bernardo or flight a cross in that the defender can see and attack.

I think he would be better suited playing off a striker which we don’t do. Needs a reaction tonight after him not being included in the team on Sunday. The way he went on strike at Leicester last January shows he doesn’t like it when things are going his way.
