If you look at his club career, he's had the one season where he excelled and the rest was decidely average.
Maybe he's found his level as a bit part player at a 'bigger' club.
He's not of the level of Sane or Sterling
No but then we aren't going to get a 3rd winger at their level. Same way we shouldn't expect Gundogan to be the same level as KDB or Silva. Doesn't mean they aren't players that can be used in rotation that are better than most teams have as squad players. Remember too he was an alternative to Sanchez, so we weren't looking for like for like Sterling and Sane alternatives.

If he can't get past average defenders then he's gonna struggle in the chumps league games. I expect more from him.
On the contrary average league players are likely to sit back and defend in clusters. I believe he'd have an easier time against Champ league defenders.

I can’t work out whether he’s lacking confidence and trying too hard to impress with all these stupid dummy’s, stepovers and this rolling his foot over the ball bollocks or whether he just thinks he’s far better than he is.

One moment yesterday, I think it was De Bruyne who played him in down the right hand side of the box in the first half and he rolled his foot over the ball to control it. Why? Take a touch with your fucking instep and shoot you fucking idiot. It gave the defender time to get back and get a block in, so much for Pep and doing the “simple things” as Sterling put it.
I think it was @Neville Kneville who said it best, he is trying to live up to his price tag. Once he figures out no one cares and begins to play for the team more, it will click.

I agree with many on here & believe he will become a big player for City.

Honestly he bloody makes me mad & shout at the TV or in the ground when he stops runni g & turns back to start again.

I still think he has another level to play with but he definately has confidence problems & knows he ain't 1st choice.
Pep believes in him so we have to get behind him like we have with everyone.
It reminds me of Sterling's 1st season where he wouldn't beat a man or get to the goal line to put someone in he always turned back or eventually passed it to there centre backs.
He will win us some games & some massive points you just wait.
For now let's give him a break & shout his name.

Scapegoats abound on Bluemoon.

Gundogan. Mahrez. Walker. Jesus. Sterling. Sane. Etc etc....

How on EARTH does Pep keep us winning?

;)

Just a thought, but I wonder if his form has been affected by the lack of Mendy? Since Mendy's been out we've not been able to play Sterling on the left as effectively, which means that we've had to rely more on the Sané-Sterling combo. Subsequently, the Mahrez-Sterling axis of earlier in the season hasn't been as useful. Remember it was this combo that played vs Liverpool and Tottenham back in October to great effect. They combined brilliantly for the goal against Tottenham too. If people remember, he was just starting to hit real good form prior to that United game too.

It is quite possibly a big coincidence though.
