Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

Completely forgot how to kick a ball tonight. Had two massive chances, free shots on goal from 10 yards out and fluffed them both, butchered every free kick he went near and didn't seem to have a clue what he was supposed to do on the wing.

A reminder that he's still learning the ropes here. Pep only made a few changes and he suddenly looked like it was his debut in a new team.

At least his corner kicks are not bad!

But in all seriousness, he wasnt playing on his natural position. I have a feeling that Pep gave him an instruction to play more like a central midfielder than a winger

Takes a nifty corner, mind. ;-)

One of the things I noted is that he tends to lie 5-10 yards deeper on the right than Sane does on the left. Whether that's because he doesn't fancy as long a chase back to cover Walker I don't know, but it means that we're not pushing the opposition fullback as deep on that side.

Pep was constantly gesticulating for him to stay wide.
 
Always looks petrified to me as if he's thinking 'I'm going to be found out at any minute'

Hopefully he'll come good - he's doing okish mind just needs to come to terms with the requirement to be playing at a consistently high level
