Annoys me whenever I read blues criticising Savic. We used to give our young players time and support.

I remember a couple of years ago the witch-hunt on here with Richards!

No cover for Kompany? Kolo, Savic and Richards spring to mind, with Rekik for the Carling Cup games. Yaya? I do think we need to prioritise a midfielder, but even so we still have de Jong and Milner in reserve. And Razak, Suarez for the Carling Cup.

We are not down to bare bones. Chill.

I'm chilled mate, but if I were the manager charged with defending the title and having a serious attempt at the Champions League, I'd want better cover for Kompany than Kolo or Savic, and better cover for Yaya than Milner or De Jong (Martinez would be perfect because he'd kill two birds with one stone). I'd also want to sign a top striker like RVP should he be available, and I'd be prepared to sacrifice Dzeko to get him. Standing still is rarely a wise option if you're sights are set high.

You might not rate the players I've mentioned but clearly the manager does. And I'd go with that at the moment.

And you don't mind Balotelli becoming our 4th. choice striker? You are getting spoiled mate!

I'm sure we will strengthen, I just don't understand the panic on here with it all.

I'm not panicking or spoilt, just discussing where I feel we need to strengthen, and whether we should sign a top quality player like RVP if he is available. You mention Mancini, but I'd speculate that his views are closer to mine than yours......

Well if you know Mancini better than me, I'm outta here!

No point taking this any further if you've got the inside track...

;-))

I'm not criticising the lad. Just don't think he's ready yet to step into Kompany's shoes if he were to (god forbid) pick up a long term injury.

-- Sun Jul 29, 2012 1:14 pm --

You do know what the word speculate means don't you? ;)

No cover for Kompany? No cover for Yaya? Passing on the chance to sign a superb striker like RVP? You're right that we could go for it and hope for no injuries to our key men (Kompany, Yaya and Aguero), but I don't see why we should.

Admittedly i'v only seen Martinez play 4 times, but i have to say I have not been impressed any time I have seen him. Until recently I was firmly in the 'get Martinez' camp, because as you say he could cover two positions. However doubt is beginning to creep into my mindset about him as a player that would suit the premier league. Im just not sure he has the physicality for it, or more importantly the mental toughness. I am more likely wrong than right, but this is how i am feeling at the moment.

The bit I don't get is that most on here are claiming that RvP will be brought in as a replacement for Dzeko.

So RvP is going to be our new 4th. choice striker is he?

If RvP comes (and personally I do think he will end up here) he's coming to replace Tevez and Balotelli as Aguero's partner.

This means Balotelli will likely be our new 4th. choice striker... and that's a good idea?

And even if the sales of Adebayor/RSC/Teve/Dzeko are going to determine whether or not we pursue RvP... what has this to do with our other transfer targets in midfield and at the back? Surely they are separete issues? So why are we holding back on the other potential deals?

Like I said at the start of the transfer window, I think we could go again with what we've got. And if it means consigning Adebayor and RSC to the Carling Cup campaign then so be it.

Arsenal, Chelsea and the rags signings have still not made them better than us.

You're wrong here about the strikers mate, imo.

The problem we had with rotation last season was that there was a clear distinction between the levels all of our strikers were playing at.

IF Tevez stays fit and we swap RvP for Dzeko then we will have 4 top class strikers in Sergio, RvP, Carlos and Balo.

I then think that Bob will be happy, assuming all fit, to rotate them regularly depending on opposition as I'd expect us to be going all guns blazing for all trophies.
