Rochester And Strood By-Election

[The third party that has morals or principles..... Hmmmm.

The only reason they climbed into bed with Conservatives was to appease Cleggs vanity, he wanted a big job in British Politics and this was the only way he'd get it. He wanted to be deputy PM (a job which he has done relatively unnoticed) and he got it.

Sold out their supporters big time.

What would you suggest they should have done?
Joined Gordon Brown's rainbow alliance of all the smaller parties to keep a deeply unpopular government in power.
At least with the Tories they've made a start on reducing the deficit that Labour created.
If they had got in bed with Labour Clegg would have still been Deputy PM.

Still the penny teeters on the edge rather than drops with the main parties, they cling on to the idea that come the GE people will revert to a pattern that has seen them in power if only they now make a few more empty promises.
What they still fail to see is middle England has not only woke up, but take a great deal of pleasure seeing the political elite with real fear in their eyes as they backtrack on previously held positions.

Labour now want to talk about immigration, yet anyone who even dared suggest such a thing a few years ago was branded a racist (And of course they want people to forget who it was who allowed and encouraged mass immigration for their own political ends). With the old standby of defend the NHS from "Privatization" falling flat on its face due to the PFI scandal enacted under the last labour government.

The Conservatives can take little comfort as they blunder along seemingly powerless to address any of the issues, and getting caught trying to spin things like the £1.7m bill from the EU, not forgetting a lot of the damage done by the last government is also on the toes of an opposition that did little if anything to try and prevent it.

This is NOT just a few disillusioned Tory voters having a meaningless pop at a serving government, the smug look that labour had on its face got wiped off as it becomes clear that their core voters are also voting UKIP in significant numbers. What happens next GE could be very interesting.....................;0)

The immigration issue is arguably an even bigger factor in some labour heartlands in the North. UKIP were originally seen by some as a threat mainly to the Tory vote. They aren't.

Just after Carswell won his by election I was chatting with, amongst others, a Labour councillor who manages the re-election campaign of a Labour inner city MP. Someone made a remark about UKIP being a threat mainly to the tories. The councillor just murmured "you haven't seen our canvessing returns".

I'm telling the truth. If you don't want to believe me that's your prerogative.

In answer to the earlier question why are Labour voters defecting in droves? The answer is Farage is trying to be all things to all men and in fairness thus far he's succeeding.

The real Answer is that its NOT right wing nut jobs (Or even a lot of Tories) that see their wages and working conditions undermined by mass immigration, who can not get a council house/School place/Hospital bed thanks to a party that claimed to represent "The working class" while throwing away every benefit the working class fought for over many years, including the right to free speech.

In fact, in your world it would be the Tories who benefit from cheap labour to man their sweat shops, yet most of them opposed the deliberate mass immigration policy of labour, so bang goes that argument,

Tory sheep don't like people with funny accents and darker complexions, never have, goes back all the way to the 50's when they didn't like em' on the buses, but employers who bank role the Tory party love em, lots of luverly cheap labour and no unions.

If you hate Labour so much then why don't you just vote Tory at the next General Election? I intend to.
Blair's policy of mass immigration, for purely political reasons, "to change Britain forever" was totally wrong
but we are where we are unless you are part of the "send 'em all back brigade." Don't forget we have an ageing population.
Wages and working conditions are not being undermined by mass immigration but by globalisation and in all likelihood they will drop further.
Sweat shops are likely to become the norm if we leave the European Union because we'll lose a lot of foreign investment and skilled jobs
in this country. These are very difficult times for the western world but don't blame everything on immigration. A fortress UK approach would only make things worse. I do agree with you about free speech which I've said on other threads. I also agree that both Labour and the Tories are
pretty shit alternatives at the moment but both are better than UKIP.

Doesn't surprise me. Quite a lot of my traditional labour voter friends have already said they will be voting UKIP. I won't though.

Ah the old aging population chestnut its cracking cop out import millions of people who magically don't grow old or put off a minor problem for 40 years and end up with one 5 times as big, whats your solution going to be then, Followed up by workers who work cheap don't keep wages down brilliant deduction Sherlock. then the classic we'll lose foreign investment and skilled workers if we leave the E.U. well let me let you into a big secret we've lost millions of skilled workers since joining the bloody E.U. and gained millions of unskilled ones and remember one thing they sell us vastly more than we sell them do you think Germany and France will want to lose the millions of jobs they gained selling to Britain I think not.

Labour offer nothing for working class people anymore and are seen as more of the london elite, they are no different from the tories ( middle class snobs) . Most of them have no idea what being or life is like for working class people. Same for all the parties. I think Ukip are really tapping into voters fears about immigration swell as being something different. Thats why people are voting for them.

And, unfortunately, there is the truth.
