Rodri - 2019/20 Performances

There was one part of the game where he genuinely didn’t look like he couldn’t run. No surprise that no one else was looking at him other than us. I’ve been saying it for years but major questions need asking of our scouting team. If our Spanish scouts rated Rodri why didn’t they see a player in him at Villarreal and save ourselves £40m in the process. This lad isn’t cut out for the hustle and bustle of the Prem.

What do you reckon, poach our staff back from liverpool? (Plus USB if possible)
 
I’ve been disappointed with his performances this season. Far to slow to be considered an Elite player.

An immobile pivot needs to be able to play chips, lobs, and driven passes to feet from both feet. Busquets was a great player but look who was around him. I dare say Rodri would look half decent with prime Alba and Alvez outside him and Xavi and Iniesta in front of him. Rodri looks a few levels below top class to me but he has Walker, Cancelo, Gundogan and KDB. Only KDB is remotely comparable with the players that Busquets got to line up with.

Something needs to happen. We could have got Fernandes that went to Utd, instead we got this donkey.

Seems a nice lad but not a great player.

A replacement for Fernandinho he is not.

Sure but my point is that Busquets had the passing range that those players could play 10 yards in front of him to create triangles and Busquets could hit them if the defenders went wide or could hit it wide. Then get it back and switch field to stretch teams who sat deep. Our 8s keep having to come level to Rodri to pick up the ball from him or the CB he passed it to

However I just cannot see Rodri getting better, he’s a good squad player to comfortably stroll by against Burnley, Newcastle and Norwich at home but against better teams he’s poor especially when they get round him.

Same can be said for Gundogan as well, we’ve really missed Fernandinho in the middle this year, his ability to receive the ball under pressure and quickly distribute it before he even gets it, something Rodri and Gundogan don’t have.

Nothing has changed in 6 weeks; this was immediately after the Liverpool 4-0 win so hardly a knee jerk reaction, one that Karen accused me of being a shit fan.
