Madrid literally won 3 champions leagues recently. Laughably kneejerk reaction.
And we won the title with 100 points 2 years ago and won a domestic treble last year. It all changes very quickly in football, if your players get older/slower and/or you replace players with inferior ones.
Madrid were winning CLs with a younger Modric and Kroos and with Ronaldo and Bale up front. Modric and Kroos are older and slower, Ronald has left and not adequately replaced and Bale is playing golf.
This season we have replaced our world class CDM with a guy who can’t move. We have had an aged Silva, whose legs are not what they were, even just 2 seasons ago, and our replacement for him has been Gundogan, who is not as good and is even slower.
The heart of our current side is slow and pedestrian and it doesn’t work against the best.

When have Modric and Kroos ever been quick? I don't understand this obsession with needing pace in every midfield position, it isn't based on any logical reason.

A failed experiment. He is a decent player but he is not the right player. Too slow, too passive and too soft to play that role in this team
I wouldn't mind rodri if we were actually playing the football we are suppose to! Every game he starts he has gundogan slowly roaming around him and not the actual game we should be playing of the double pivot. He should be mopping up loose balls and doing simple things not constantly on the back foot because were playing an immobile midfield against teams with pace and desire.
No seriously, he had a decent game. Timely interception. Controlled the game well once we were out of that nonsense formation.I know you have a hardon for him but come on, he was fucking terrible tonight.
But unfortunately it doesn't help when there are 2 guy making short neutral passes all over the pitch.
Defensively he was quite decent with positioning and retrieving.
