It'd easily be over £100m if we were to even be in discussion about it, we're not breaking even now. How would you propose, not only making that money back, but also the wages he'd be on, it is not feasibly possible even allowing the losses we're allowed for the next 3 years.

thats only on the basis that the ffp would even exist in 3 years time im yet to be convinced it will.

It'll still exist, but it'll be the white elephant in the room that'll get trotted out when they feel it's needed to make a statement. FFPR isn't going away purely because we know how asinine the football governing bodies can be.

we will wait and see on that one.

But surely if this one last 'fuck it lets throw money at it' punt could mean getting Ronaldo, we must do everything we can do secure him? On every level of the club it would be a massive statement, a massive signing and would get rid of that tag that we can't secure the worlds best. Also, depending on what a persons specific view of a marquee player is, we would be the first club, even including United, who would have signed a top 3/4 marquee player in his prime. Some say Veron was, and at the time I kind of agreed, but thats all depending on who you think were the worlds best at that time. Chelsea have never been able to do it, nor have Arsenal or Liverpool. To be seen to have done that would put us instantly in a bracket all of our own, again, depending on who you regard as marquee players.
Well... Torres.

If you're allowed to speculate about signing Ronaldo, I'm allowed to imagine Torres regaining form! :D
I thought someone would mention Torres. If it was 3 years ago then yes, he would be regarded as a marquee signing, but his dip in form, (for me), means he isn't in that bracket at the time you signed him. I think it's nailed on that he will regain his form. It was almost cringe worthy watching him struggle, because you could just tell he was at the point of 'what the fuck am I supposed to do to have anything go right?!'.

If the club intends to spend £400m this transfer window then yes. But I can't see it, I don't think the noises from the club suggests that's on the cards and that's not Mancini's MO. If it's a choice between spending £100m and 400k a week on four/five new potential stars of the future who will retain or increase in value or upon whom we can build a dynasty or buying one marquee signing in an attempt to become the new galácticos, I'll take the first box please.

Did you see the Spain V USA game the other week? Torres got their 4th (I think) and you could just see the relief on his face after finally scoring. I must admit, I think his injuries have caught up with him (and being rushed back by Liverpool) and he'll do well to get back to where he was.

That's all very impressive, but have you gone through a box of Kleenex in the process?

Yes fair points.

Without diverting the topic onto Torres though, he does need to be rebuilt after his Liverpool ordeal. Played through injury and ending up what I could only describe as depressed by the end. Thankfully he does look fully fit to me, his speed is still there and he still beats defenders with the same ease; he just has the confidence of a teenage girl and only he can fix that.

One game last season the team specifically engineered a free kick for him (Terry whispering in his ear before it happened to get him in position) and he completely skuffed the shot. If he can sort that out he should be ok but time will tell.

That's actually quite disturbing when you think about it.

And to Castiel, I think the time away from Football over the summer will let him get his head back on, quite possible he just needed a break after all the drama over the last year or two. Injured for 'pool, went to the wc injured and did his hammer again then the big money move. Alot to deal with.
