Rony Lopes

I love this club with all my heart, and usually give my full backing to almost every decision but I cannot for the life of me understand this deal, and the denayer loan. These are 2 players ready to make the leap without doubt and yet we have let one go permanently and the other we have conned into signing a 5 year deal, to then sign a 30 million pound defender and thus let him leave on loan. How are other youth products going to gain confidence in getting to the first team from this?

Where are you getting this from?

Not too bothered and wish him all the best.

It's a shame but we move on. The club just isn't in a position to put a player's development ahead of results/trophies at the minute and he's nowhere near Sterling's level,

The message this sends out is loud and clear, if you are a youth team player the only chance you will get at city is if you are one the best youth players of your generation....

We will continue to produce very good players at the CFA , as the facilities are light years ahead of any other club. We just won't see them pull on the blue shirt.

We were told at the end of last season that three youth team players would be promoted to the first team squad , Kelechi , Marcos & Jason, two of which have now been lead down the garden path and have left.

Continue down this road for too much longer and this success that we are enjoying now will feel pretty hollow in ten years time

Pathetic

And so it should be.

such doom and gloom...maybe a decision was made that they just arent good enough and ready to play at this level, and to those who think the academy will suffer just isnt the case

Lopes could turn out to be just that , we don't know , we let him slip away in favour of a shiny new bauble in a position we are already well stocked no less....

The CFA is a £200m PR exercise

The amount of tripe and apologist behaviour spouted in this thread defending the club at all costs despite the clear, clear evidence in front of them that we're not handling this youth development thing well at all is mind-boggling.

The people who make the decisions about players obviously don't think he's ready.

Better to sell him now for money than let his contract run down and leave for little or nothing.

No worse than some of the senior squad players typical contribution level. Which on last season's showing woud be a bit better than total shit, but I'd expect more than that from him.

You really do feel bitter about this and, (correct me if I am wrong) are not a professional footballing coach, yet you try to convince that you have more of an idea of those who are. Rony, with the best will in the world is not at the standard needed by City, otherwise, he would have been given chances. Yes he might thrive in the PL in a mid table team, but he has not shown enough technical competence to convince the ones who matter at City.

If, as someone has just said, Rony was demanding game time in order to sign a contract, I'm pleased we have said no and made a return on the investment.

Can imagine we have a buyback clause in the Lopes deal - if he does shine maybe he will be back for a reasonable fee?

The bar is set. I agree that the youth player that breaks through will have to be one of the absolute best. How that is pathetic is beyond me.

We are not a club that is hoping for a youth prospect to come through to push us 1 or 2 places up the table. We once were but now are not. There is no way that the heirarchy
will risk blooding a youngster that may lose us three points or goal difference, nevermind a place in the table.

What a ridiculous statement. It will pay for itself soon enough and will attract the worlds best youngsters that have belief in themselves.

It'll never happen then. KDB, Sterling, Kompany, even Silva...these players would never break through at City. Messi would have, but he's Messi. Do you really think we'd be giving a young, raw Silva the slow integration into first team football he needed to become what he was? No.

None, just given him some mins as sub to see how he gets on, then if he does ok, give him a bit more, then if he continues to look ok at that level, pehaps start him in a cup game, then if he does ok there, start him vs a lesser Prem side at home etc etc. If he progresses, than fuck Nasri or Navas off this time next year. If Lopes is crap, loan him out in Jan. Simple.

What you described is not enough IMO to get him to sign a new contract. So all those games that you are talking about giving him could be given to someone else, because to give them to him and watch him walk on a free in a year anyway is just bad business.

Because total shit usually finishes second in the league.

Out of interest, which of the youth team would have played regularly in the "must be utterly shit as they finished third" Arsenal team?

If he'd been involved on the bench for two of these games, getting 35 minutes as a sub in one, he'd hang around this season. Defo. Then if he he had made 8/9 starts and a further 10 appearances and saw his involvement rise towards the end and was told Navas or Nasri was leaving then yeah, he might've signed.

You do know most of the money went on training facilities for the entire squad, rather than youth facilities?

but what if he didnt...we lost a player for nothing?
