Ross Barkley

Fuck that for a laugh. Kenwright must need a new boiler or some shit.

Not for that price. I'd rather see us going for someone like Koke and filling our homegrown quota in some other way.

Manchester City will have to shell out £60m to land Ross Barkley - and the big question is when the Blues will make their record-breaking bid for the Everton and England superstar.

MEN Sport understands that a summer move was dismissed out of hand by Roberto Martinez and since then the midfielder has signed a new four-year contract which effectively ups his value.

Barkley, who is an integral part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad, is on the most wanted list of Europe’s elite clubs as the January transfer window looms.

But City remain at the forefront of the suitors and are poised to at least double Barkley’s wage - and match the asking price that would make Barkley a record for an Englishman, and that potential deal would be the biggest between two British clubs.

United and Chelsea are among the other top clubs interested in the 22-year-old goal-scoring midfielder but relationships between the Reds and Everton hierarchy have been soured over the appointment of David Moyes, the 11th hour signing Marouane Fellaina and the ultimately unsuccessful but protracted pursuit of Goodison talisman Leighton Baines.

City upset Everton when Joleon Lescott signed, and Barkely will be well aware that Jack Rodwell made the switch down the East Lancs Road but failed to break through the Blues’ star spangled squad.

But City previously adopting a softly, softly approach could now have to go in with a blockbuster offer that Everton couldn’t turn down because of the dip in form of Yaya Toure and the need to quickly revive their faltering season.

The champions' boss Manuel Pellegrini knows that his own future will be on the line if City’s season ends trophy less so will be in determined mood to make the forthcoming transfer window a success, although with the UEFA Financial Fair Play restraints will obviously wheel and deal if he is to land the club’s number one target Barkley.

One source close to the player said: “Its a Wayne Rooney situation all over again. Yet another player has comes through the brilliant academy set up at Goodison who so called bigger clubs are desperate to get their hands on.

“Ross Barkley is Everton through and through and flourishing under Roberto Martinez.. However, he is ambitious and wants to be at a club on the biggest stage

I imagine the fee, whatever it may end up being, will be structured according to development and progress as well as our future success.
I cant imagine we will be willing to entertain demands for 60m,he simply isn't worth anywhere close, especially given he is still very raw and injury prone.

60m would also purchase two far more established quality types, players who could make an immediate impact on our first team and,as much as possible...... guarantee a return.

Only a few million more than David Luiz Chelsea to PSG, seems quite cheap to me!

great player but got the paul lake look about him (sorry paul )

the gamble would be to big at £60million for a player that's at this young age is injury prone
but the talent is there and maybe city could sort a deal out with Add-on over a space of 5 season

£30 million would be more than fair and maybe a starting point for him even give them a 20% sell on fee or first offer to buy him back. but for city its a big gamble with the need for a player to play every week in that role to replace yaya toure with him is a gamble

I'm just flabbergasted at little knowledge of the game some people have on here, To say Ross Barkley is no better than we have is ridiculous, First of all do we have anyone as good as Barkley in his age group? NO, Do we have anyone besides Silva and Aguero who can dribble with the ball at their feet like Barkley? NO, The fact he is English is more of a cherry on top of the cake, It's not his selling point.

We MUST get Barkley in the summer, Barkley should be our first target as he will be replacing that Ivorian lug who's inconsistencies eradicate his positives, So for every person who says Barkley cannot replace Toure, My reply would be, What, Replace a guy who jogs half hearted, cannot be bothered to track back, has 4/10 performances once every 2/3 games, Sure he can.

If he we land Barkley early then it takes the heat off us for our other transfer targets, Whether we decide to go after Isco who could become available or Reus or Vidal, Depay or even Gylfi Sigurdsson, We don't need strikers despite everyone panicking over this topic, The less strikers we have the better the odds we play 1 up top and manage to keep the 3 strikers we have happy and we need goals from midfield, So buying a striker is merely ignoring that fact.

If we line up something like this for next year we might have a chance of winning the CL as we will have great possession players, Younger players and quicker players.
Hart
Zabba Kompany Mangala Kolarov

Isco/Sigurdsson Barkley

Nasri/Jovetic Reus
Silva

Aguero

Give over. A central midfield pairing of Sigurdsson and Barkley will get you nowhere near the CL.

He nearly had me there! I thought this lad knows what he's talking about...then I read his team and I nearly choked on my morning brew!
You've been playing to much football manager.
