I haven't been there for about 10 years so I am basing my opinion on that - I only assume it has got worse!

From my experiences living around Gtr Manchester Areas have bad/good things about them...

The worse areas for Violence have been quite middle-class type areas where the young lads are "kept" and have money to spend on getting pissed/coked up and twat anyone and everyone. but the houses look well maintained, nice gardens cars etc.... just twats inside them.

The severe drug ravaged communities seem quite quiet, everyones walking around zombiefied on heroin or strong alcohol, they ain't doing shit in their areas, they go into different areas to commit their crimes.

Back of the moss estate - Heywood
Darn hill - heywood (has improved since late 80's early 90's)
New bold estate - Rochdale
Langley - Middleton
Cheetham Hill
Newbury estate - classed as farnworth but right next to Salford.
Dickie Bird estate - bury
Mersey Drive/Parr lane region of Whitefield

Saying Salford is rough isn't right as its quite a big area, areas of Lower Broughton And Little Hulton are shitholes....

Some parts of Salford are grim as fuck, Wythenshawe as well.

Know Manchester fairly well but not nearly as well as someone who has grown up here (obviously) but west belfast puts these places to shame ;)

Forget your teddy boys, mods and rockers and present day would be gangsters these lot were the business and were called scuttlers. They would kill you just for walking on there side of the road. Anyone who thinks knife crime and crime is out of control should read this book.

lived all over manchester but the two WORST effing places have got to be wallbank in whitworth and thornbank in bacup. lived on both of these as a kid and i had a fair few fights, (dads regularly got their kids to twat living hell out of eachother in back gardens for bets with other dads). just the blatant use of drugs, violence and robberies for such small estates makes you wonder just how rough they would be if they were the same size as places like moss side or wythenshawe.

Hey i was born Lower Broughton and was a over spiller to Little Hulton.
Was'nt til i moved out that i really saw how bad life is there. My sisters still live there it's dog eat dog. Yeh your right it's a shit hole :)

There's no petty crime in Moss Side, that I experienced anyway. Whatever you do, don't settle down there and set yourself up in business selling smack. Otherwise, the bad lads will leave you alone. Feral youth types arent so much of a problem because upsetting the wrong guy or one of his mates there means a coffin, not a kicking- and so, perversely, the kids keenly understand the concept of respect.
