Rugby Fans are brought up better

The thing I've always found at rugby league matches is if it kicks off, it will usually just be between a few blokes with everyone around them laughing at them (I saw a man dressed as a smurf lead 4 rows of seats to fight a leprechaun at the challenge cup final a few years ago) or not bothering with them. If that happened at a football match every child-cum-badman would be piling in having a dig.

I think it helps that league itself is a bit of a niche sport, it isn't as widespread as most of the other sports in the UK so you can immediately get on with someone who is a fan of the sport on the whole rather than the individual teams- like someone said before there will be teams of all the clubs(not just super league clubs) at the grand final tomorrow and if its anything like the previous 4 Ive been to there wont be trouble.

Edit: PS all union players are definite homs.

generally speaking most rugby league fans have played the game at some level themeselves so know how hard it is. they watch the sport as much as support their team. as for featherstone i have been many times without seeing any trouble. the fighting usually at cup matches in rugby league is usually caused by football fans turning up once a year. castleford and featherstone have had problems in big matches but people reckon these are often fans of leeds united who may live in their towns but do not really follow the rugby teams.
i used to watch swinton home and away it would ALWAYS kick off at featherstone....once or twice at hull and widnes but that was it...this was a few years back though.

As an ex player (league),the real reason is that the thugs are on the pitch, not in the stands.
My uncle was the steward at the Willows in the '70's and there was some right hard fuckers playing then(Jim Mills,Widnes legend),who would be in gaol not on the pitch.
All those places in West Yorks. were full of walking arguments not just Fev,but the last time I had a scrap with someone toe to toe was at Sydney Roosters vs South Sydney,it's a bit different out here.
