Rumours Bernardo may leave | Still 1 year left on contract

Probably my favourite City player over the past few seasons, so many amazing memories, that performance in the semi final against Real was phenomenal. Intelligent bloke, trusted by Pep, knows everything there is to know about how we play the game too, would a coaching role be out of the question?

Although Bernardo is only 30 you'd think he would still have another 2 seriously good years left with us.

Unfortunately it's not the case, Bernardo has ran himself into the ground over his time with us, He's more than likely covered more distance than 4 or 5 players combined! No wonder he looks fucked, He's given his all, He's gone above and beyond for this club.

It's the right time for Bernardo to go, He's an absolute legend and he's loved by every single City fan, Nobody could have a bad word to say about Bernie, Over the years he's also grown to hate the Dippers and Rags just like we do.

He's one of us.
Bernie has been a legend. No one has been loved by our fans as much. He has given everything to us. Like David Silva he should go with our best wishes. It is the right time. Just like Sergio, Zabba, and Vinny.

Guardiola spoke several times in summer 2023 about how Bernado was keen to join Barcelona, and in fact he gave similar interviews in 2022 about how Bernado could leave if a deal was agreed with the club.

I’m not sure why you’d deny that.
He would not be here if a big money deal had come in. Perhaps wages was an issue? I expect something similar this summer, although with so many possible exits efforts might be made to keep him for the sake of maintaining a degree of continuity.

"Right time to go", "legend, but...." etc. The usual comments from the forum experts that are banking on the club suddenly getting its transfer finger out of its arse.
Careful what you wish for.

This forum is like Shiny New Toy Syndrome on steroids. New players good, existing players bad.

I'd say as a ball park figure with transfers 50% are successful. Now our successes over the last few years have been largely due to the fact that our success rate with transfers has been significantly higher than that. IMO this has been due in large part to us having an established way of playing and then it's much easier to judge how a player will slot in.

With the team now in transition and the playing style less defined I think it's likely that the success rate with transfers will decrease. So the underlying assumption that these posters who seem to want to get rid of most of the players have, that all new transfers will be a success, I think is fundamentally false and so a more gradual turnover of players than is being espoused on here is required.

Im from the US and I dragged my teenagers to a game a couple years ago (they’re big US sports fans, but don’t watch “soccer”) and my 13 year old said after the game, “I don’t know who that little guy is but he’s clearly the best one on the field. He’s bothering everyone like a dog.” I think of that every time I see Bernardo…his talent and tenacity was clear even to someone who knew 0 about the game.

One of the best player songs. Up there with Yaya's Delilah. Liked the way we were able to keep changing the destination until we got back to Istanbul.
Has anyone got any videos of the barman in Porto, crowd surfing to this chant before the CL final?

Not sure he’s properly finished. Our system struggles this year have exposed players with less physicality. Lewis being another prime example.

He’s a dribbler that needs players close to him, which he hasn’t had this season as they’ve stayed deeper as they’re scared of counter attacks.
You refer to our system struggles, but lack of physicality combined with lack of pace is a recipe for disaster in the PL now, whatever the system/set up we use, when you look at the profile of most of the opposing teams in the league.

Bernardos 2 way work rate is insane and he's being asked to do it still at 30 in a struggling side so this season has probably been the hardest time to do what he does which a very small number of players do. And it's exposed his lack of pace even more. I think he still has a few years left in him in a set up that's got rodri and more control however it's gonna be more time on the bench than starting going forward. If he leaves so be it, he leaves as a legend but I don't think his time is over yet. 1 more season I think and leaves on a free. I think the obvious ones in kdb and walker are gone with one of the CBs, mcatee. Of course if decent offers come in for bernardo, Stones, ake, nunes then I can see them all going. Oh and gundo forgot about him. I don't think gundo and bernwrdo both leave so if gundo goes bernardo stays for certain

The KDB decision is a masterstroke from the club.

This moves informs all players that you are for sale if performances don’t improve and funny that, we started to look abit better and the top 5 is a realistic prospect once again.

If we can tell kdb, a legend of the club to go we can tell anyone in the squad.

So although I am sad to see legends leave. Not just because of the player but also the person. Bernie and kdb both exemplary examples of good business by the club.

Players are certainly on notice now. Stay fit be available and put in top performances or you will be sold.

Grealish
Stones
Ake
Alanji
Kova

On this list.

Doku
Savio

On the need to do better list.
Kova, Akanji, Doku and Savio are going nowhere. Akanji isn't that injury prone. Savio and Doku will get 1 more year and competition .

Will always be one of my very favourite players. An absolute legend for us. Would be great if we could facilitate him getting back to Benfica.

Love him forever but now is the right time. I thought he could have played into his 40s but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Look, it's another player who has done and given the lot at City, The question is the fee City will demand rightly so,
£20 million should be the minimum, City should not buckle and let him leave for free
