Running thread

Oh and another favourite is to park at the top end of Buttermere, run down the west side of the lake then climb Haystacks (that's fucking hard work, let me tell you) then across to Honister Slate mine and Fleetwith Pike.

I got badly lost up there for several hours once when the fog descended and I had no idea where I was but it's a magnificent environment.

On the tops you can see for miles right through the valley across Buttermere and Crummock.
 
On the subject of the Lakes, I'm wondering what routes any of you have done before and if you have any recommendations.

I've been up running the Kentmere Horseshoe at 4am and getting towards the tops as the sun rises - it's just magical to see those jaw-dropping views at that time of day.

An easier one that I've done by myself a few times is to climb Ullock Pike and cross Long Side then climb to the top of Carl Side. You end up with Skiddaw right next to you on one side and on the other side you look down on Dodd Wood and Bassenthwaite Lake - nearly every time I've done it (dawn) I've found myself looking down on RAF jets practising flying over the lake.

The main thing though is the expansive view of mountain ranges across the north Lakes: the likes of Grisedale, Hindscarth etc. There's nothing like it for me.

Beats Daisy Nook, anyway.
I go to Keswick each year and try an early run round Derwentwater. It's lovely on a nice day. I tried the Walla Crag trail a couple of years ago. Stunning views, but the terrain was tricky and very steep, so there was a lot of walking involved.

Apart from that, just a few 5k runs around Keswick.

Stayed at Ambleside and Grasmere last year also. I ran a few times around Ambleside, and was disappointed I didn't get chance to run around Rydal Water.
 
Just bought a pair of Nike react Milers, they have a bit of bounceback which I have found helpful on my dodgy knees.

I also bought some Anti-Blister socks from More Mile.

I am however getting a feel of rubbing starting at around 30 mins of running, no blister, not sure if it is the socks or the shoe lol the socks are quite thick and a little on the warm side tbh but are comfy as on the soles of the feet.

A set of socks I would recommend are the injini socks, which are basically standard socks but with a compartment for each toe. Mega comfortable and stops any rubbing as your foot can naturally spread out and there is material separating each toe. Also a bit of a talking point if you ever need to take your shoes off in front of strangers.

No way on Planet Earth would a pair of socks bounce and help your knees. All psychological but if it helps you then go with it

Good effort. Looking like you can get that sub 4hr marathon if you stay injury free and pace it right.

I did a HM on Sunday. Tried to practice Marathon pace but got a bit caught up in the fun of it all and was ahead of it. Felt comfortable though and then pushed the pace over the last 3 miles. Enjoyable. They banned in ear headphones which usually destroys me, but I enjoyed hearing the crowd and listening to other people chatting shit and breathing loudly.

Yeah I usally run with a few but was on my own Saturday so pace down a little but not much.
I've never been one for earphones to be honest, much rather prefer to talk to people or myself lol.
Got a big 3 weeks coming up, going to try and push the pace before Manchester on 3rd April.

What training plan are you following?
I usually go on my own but need music as a result. Did genuinely enjoy running without music yesterday though. Was a good crowd out and I was pacing it so it wasn't tough until I tried to up it at the end.
