Running thread

Looking at Hoka Carlton (?)[EDIT CLIFTON] a friend mentioned today, or uustvreoksvung my brooks ghost that have served me well.

Guess I need to find a decent price & take it from there.
looking at sportsshoes but I’ve ordered a jacket from Keller & the service was pretty good (as was the price).

Struggled on todays park run (my 99th!) but think weds track sessions hammers me a little (plus awful sleep last night too).

Funnily enough Ive been doing a bit of research into the inov8's, Ive been eyeing up the terraultras or the trailflys not got round to tossing the coin for which ones yet though

Are the Terracultura not low drop shoes? I would have thought it would be a bit of a jump from running in vaporflys etc with a high stack, lots of cushioning to dropping down so much.

Everyone loves Hoka but for some reason I get a bit of discomfort in my foot as I step up the distance. That is with the Hoka speedgoat, could be as the material is not to flexible.

40 mile trail race?! Good luck with that. Is it over a few days or something? It sounds mental!

Actually, my running club organises the Warrington Way 40 miler once a year. A lot of people enter it. Not for me though. What's the training regime like? Are your long runs over 30 miles? Do you take breaks during the run? How on earth do you fuel up for it? Does the winner run a lap of honour?

Well my training routine has been a bit sketchy so in all honesty I have not done much more than I did for the Marathon. Ran a Marathon last weekend and planning to get a 30/32 miler in 3 weeks before. I think a lot of it will be more the mental challenge to keep going rather than the physical challenge thats what I keep telling myself anyway. I am trying to run more on tired legs so back to back tough runs at weekends I have added.

Fuelling is my big worry, its my first Ultra, so just planning to start early, take a maltodextrin sports drink, cliff bloks and bars and only use gels sparingly so my stomach does not go south.

I think there are aid stations at 10 mile intervals and Im expecting to have to walk, dependent upon the hills and probably to recharge post 30 miles.

My plan is to keep my heart rate low, run within myself for the first 20 miles and hope I have a little left in the tank.

Yeah, I wear Inov8 for trail runs in the Lakes. They've served me well. Just got in the house from spending the afternoon in Keswick actually, and am thinking about doing some fell runs in the coming weeks.

Good on you mate, I know you have been working to get back to your best so great your ready to attempt a few fell runs.

Which ones do you wear by the way? Heard a few reviews suggest a couple of the shoes run a bit narrow?

Hoping to get the chance to get out a couple of times while up there. If I buy a pair I can sell it to the missus I need to test them before I leave just in case they don't fit.

Just bought a pair of Nike react Milers, they have a bit of bounceback which I have found helpful on my dodgy knees.

I also bought some Anti-Blister socks from More Mile.

I am however getting a feel of rubbing starting at around 30 mins of running, no blister, not sure if it is the socks or the shoe lol the socks are quite thick and a little on the warm side tbh but are comfy as on the soles of the feet.

I've got the Trailroc G 280. The grip is superb in all conditions and I feel free to run though/on/over anything with these on.

On the subject of the Lakes, I'm wondering what routes any of you have done before and if you have any recommendations.

I've been up running the Kentmere Horseshoe at 4am and getting towards the tops as the sun rises - it's just magical to see those jaw-dropping views at that time of day.

An easier one that I've done by myself a few times is to climb Ullock Pike and cross Long Side then climb to the top of Carl Side. You end up with Skiddaw right next to you on one side and on the other side you look down on Dodd Wood and Bassenthwaite Lake - nearly every time I've done it (dawn) I've found myself looking down on RAF jets practising flying over the lake.

The main thing though is the expansive view of mountain ranges across the north Lakes: the likes of Grisedale, Hindscarth etc. There's nothing like it for me.

Beats Daisy Nook, anyway.
