Running thread

Did the Seville Marathon last Sunday, very good race on a flat course in a fab city.
Nice and cool to start with but got up to 20deg for last hour of the race
Was hoping for under 3;35 and got 3:29.So delighted with that.

That’s so quick

7-8 min miles is that ?

Your PB at Dartford parkrun remains 00:23:24. Congratulations on your fastest time this year

Has anybody used the Garmin 'Suggested Workouts'? and if so, how have they found it?

I previously posted in this thread about a month ago as I injured my back about October last year and then it went again in December. So I have only been back at in the last 4 weeks or so and thought I'd take it steady- I can still slightly feel my back when I run. The majority of the runs the Garmin suggests are 'base runs' in Zone 2 and they work out about 10 minute mile pace. I've just been out for an hour and obviously done about 6 miles. I find these incredibly boring especially when on form I can do 7 minute mile pace at such distances. To be honest I've probably never trained properly before and always run at sort of threshold pace and then quicker for the last mile or so. I'm thinking of sticking with it another month or so to see if I feel much benefit from working out like this but I'm struggling with motivation and bizarrely sort of miss that feeling of fatigue.

My predicted V02 on my device has gradually decreased from 54 to 49 in the past few weeks. (I think I'd rather it did that straight away instead of decreasing incrementally when you are still exercising as it's quite demotivating in itself). I have to bear in mind I'm over 13 stone though and a few lbs heavier than I was a few months ago and I always run on the promenade which has regularly been having 20kph+ winds recently which will also be impacting my times and feelings of extra exertion.

Morning All
20 miles this morning
Just a few weeks until Manchester now
Nice running. It's great to get those long ones in. Sounds like you're ready to smash the marathon.

I'm pleased to have got a 70-mile week in. I did a 20 and a 17 and all the rest were 11. You know your running is going well when your shortest runs are in double figures. It has knackered me though, to be fair!

I'm also pleased to have put a big dent in my belly. I'm hoping to stick at the healthy lifestyle with the aim of getting the belly right down and getting PBs in all distances this year. Unfortunately that means I will probably peak in the summer when it's too hot for that sort of thing so I'm currently thinking about entering some events in the autumn.

I'm interested to hear what you guys have got planned for this year. I know some of you are doing the London and/or Manchester marathons. Anything else?

I'm also interested in recommendations for a good marathon, half marathon and 10k in the autumn (around Sep-Nov).

I've got a local marathon - really beautiful in rural Cumbria. It literally goes through my village, right past my front door but it's in July for fuck's sake! Who the hell schedules a full marathon in July!?

A few rambling thoughts...

70 miles in a week! Wow. The most I ever did was 60 at the peak of marathon training about a decade ago.

PBs ?!!?. They are a distant memory. Last one was about a decade ago! At what age do you think PBs become impossible?

My plans. I have entered a 10k in May. It's my second race in the last decade! After that I will transition from running to cycling again as it will be too hot for me.

How about Loch Ness marathon in October? It's been recommended to me in the past. If there is one last marathon in me then that will be it.
