Leicestershire half marathon today, my first ever proper event apart from parkrun. Still awaiting official time but think I was just under 1:50. Absolutely delighted with this, especially as I finished strongly. 7 weeks till London Marathon..
Sounds like you're on track! Great work.Leicestershire half marathon today, my first ever proper event apart from parkrun. Still awaiting official time but think I was just under 1:50. Absolutely delighted with this, especially as I finished strongly. 7 weeks till London Marathon..
Apparently speed and general running ability start to decline around 50 for typical amateur runners.A few rambling thoughts...
70 miles in a week! Wow. The most I ever did was 60 at the peak of marathon training about a decade ago.
PBs ?!!?. They are a distant memory. Last one was about a decade ago! At what age do you think PBs become impossible?
My plans. I have entered a 10k in May. It's my second race in the last decade! After that I will transition from running to cycling again as it will be too hot for me.
How about Loch Ness marathon in October? It's been recommended to me in the past. If there is one last marathon in me then that will be it.
PBs are possible, I think. I ran a Parkrun PB of 24:04 five months ago at Stretford. It knocked 30 seconds off my previous PB, which was about three years ago. I'm 61, and I thought PBs were consigned to the past too.A few rambling thoughts...

I suppose it depends how good the PBs were and at what age they were done. Obvious I suppose! Most of mine, certainly at the shorter distances were about 20 years ago now when I was mid to late 30s. Eg 5k time for comparison was about 19 minutes. I'll get no where near that again, probably barely under 24 minutes these days :-(PBs are possible, I think. Since then though, I've had a three month injury lay off, so I'm not close to that level at the moment.
I'll qualify this by adding I used to run when in my mid twenties, and I ran much faster back then. This was when Garmin used to be a compass and map though, and although I have no records, I have a vague memory of 17 minutes for a distance since measured at roughly 5km.
